Just realised he's only 21. Same age as RNL. When you compare the two Reuben is miles off. To be carrying our team like he was at that age is phenomenal.
I wish folks would stop talking him up as a world beater. He played in eight games for us and despite being an attacking player he didn't score one goal. He wasn't bad but he wasn't one of our better players. It's only because we have so many worse than him still at the club and our form being so poor that his time with us stands out more.
Thats a complete contradiction. Its no coincidence that we had our best spell of form whilst he was in the side. He gave us balance and an energy going forward. We don't have a player close to giving us that now.
Class act, took the ball to the other teams at pace, could go by defenders etc and asked questions of the opposition. We never looked as good without him.
Williams did well in his spell with us but it's worth noting we had a fit back 4 of Cranie, Ramage, Nyatanga & Dudgeon & a fit & firing Winnall up front. I don't think he was key to the run of form just one of many
I thought Williams' movement/first touch/energy/vision was head and shoulders above anything else at the club. Not sure whether that is a reflection on Williams or our other midfielders...
Jury is still out for me with this lad... can't fault his work rate, he has pace but final ball and finishing has been pretty poor if I'm honest. According to Wiki, he hasn't yet scored a career goal. So refrence the comment comparing to RNL, both have potential. Williams has been given a run in the side and failed to score. RNL has scored 4 times but has had limited starts and has NOT been given a run of games for the REDS. RNL has also played out of position. Both have potential. But both need regular first team football.
You don't half talk some rubbish. This isn't as bad as saying there's no such thing as home advantage, but it's close.
Agree with that. RNL has slowly slipped out of the first team picture at Dale though. It doesn't look great for him. Williams reminded me of Jim O'Brien. Buzzed around, good energy, got stuck in and created space for others. His final ball/shot left a lot to be desired. I imagine he'd have only got better as time went on. Shame it didn't work out. Wouldn't compare him with RNL though. The latter has never had a run of games for us, and never in that number ten role. And, I doubt he ever will. Some lads have all the talent in the world but never make it. Lots more needed to your game, including looking like you want it.
I agree. I just can't inderstand the way that some people have been bigging him up. He was okay, but for at least two of the 8 games he played for us he looked no better than Brek Shea. Some of the comments I've read makes me think he's Glavin, Redfearn and Hignett rolled into one! We could certainly do with his energy in midfield, but his end product was similar to the rest of them.
We miss his energy and his running and I liked him but as others have said he was patchy and very much a development player rather thyan the finished article.
Thank you. I assume you will attack others after me who've said the same as me unless it's just a witch hunt against me.
I think they're wrong too, but at least they gave more reasoned comments and didn't contradict themselves.
