Just been looking back in the message archives Oct and Nov 2019. Thought i was on owls talk. Must be bad now the plan looks like its working ?
Very appropriate post that. The difference with their situation (and many other clubs) and ours is that our owners shared their objectives with us when they took over and they have stuck to the plan, recognising that it needed to be tweaked along the way. I've preached patience and perspective on here ever since we got the new owners and it does seem now that things are coming to fruition and that the plan is working. Our owners clearly want success (if that's so that they can line their own pockets whilst making us successful that's OK with me). The people in charge deserve some credit for that and quite rightly many on here are now beginning to realise how much we have progressed in the last 3/4 years. Like opposition fans are commenting......we have a plan and we're sticking to it. Credit to the Club also for doing it without breaking any FFP rules. As an aside, I do think this is mirrored on the field in terms of fair play. We're a hard side and we are unpleasant to play against, but we're not a dirty side. Football fans will forever be fickle, hypocritical and opinionated. That's the nature of the beast. I just wish that, on here, when times aren't as good as they are now at BFC, that we tone down the abusive ultra negativity without giving people a chance.
I agree it shouldn't be abusive but also think a bit of pointscoring against those critics now we're doing well is a bit childish to say the least...
I'm not being childish and I'm not looking to score any points. I am being naive because I don't think it will change. However........... .......all I'm trying to do is point out that some people need to reflect on what they say on here before they press "enter"; purely because, without thinking about the content before they press "enter" can have hurtful consequences. A common theme these days across all social media I know.
I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to the OP. I personally don't feel that there is any need for them. The board to their credit have changed their strategy since 2019- it isn't as if their plan has just come good in time! We've had a loanee in James who definitely helped, and we've bought experience. No need to do these threads at all other than to **** stir. Enjoy the ride instead.
The Plan is working because it has been modified from back in 2019. What we were doing in 2019 is completely different to what we're doing now - thankfully The Board learned from their many initially mistakes. They should be applauded for doing so, just as they were rightly criticised back in 2019.
We wait to see if keeping hold of our best players in January was a result of doing things differently as a club or because clubs were too skint in the current circumstances to bid what they are worth.
Defo agree in some ways we have seen this. Just the fact that we resisted key players leaving in the Jan transfer window is one of them. We have all been so annoyed in past seasons in particular when we sold Winnall and others that season when we were on the edge of maybe having a shot at the playoffs. All the questions of what could have been etc, at least this season we get to see that question answered. I just hope it isn't a temporary thing and we have evolved our plan. Some of the recent signings like Brittain, Morris, Helik have been what looks to be a stroke of genius in the recruitment dept.. Our existing players have also responded brilliantly and I would say partly this is also because we have played behind closed doors not having fans on their backs for doing so. It may have helped speed up their development, lets hope when we return they can still play with no fear. It's certainly a sign of good things happening, long may it continue.
Ha you say that but in recent times, another point of contention for many was that we never sell players for a decent value. Which ever way it was this season, hopefully it plays out like we all hope.
I don’t see it as pointscoring. Some of the comments and abuse on here, especially aimed at Conway, bordered on the same Chansiri is getting now. On the whole, that’s diluted. But there are still those that hate em ( the board) with a passion. I find difficult to comprehend. and they are waiting in the wings at the first sign of any mishaps.
We will have an idea if next January we sell 2-3 of our best players after months of being back in Oakwell unrestricted.
We'll know in the next two windows. Will the club have an idea of how much money they need to bring in, and work with the coach to find the least disruptive way of that happening. Or will they have a set price on each player's heads and continue to accept bids that meet them, even after the first couple of departures?
I have always wanted to understand the motives of a Chinese Billionaire and a US private equity guru to choose to invest in BFC. The current position of the club is fantastic and one I can honestly say I did not expect. The size of the club's budget relative to our competitors has always meant that success could only come by doing things differently. The Board deserve praise for how they have uncovered managerial gems and brought in one of the most inspirational managers in recent times. However, that still does not mean they are beyond reproach. Things have not been perfect, the 21 word statement, the sale of players without replacements and the ongoing issues over ground ownership do not suddenly go away. Mistakes have been made but the current on-field displays certainly puts these issues in the shade. Time will only tell of their intentions and I'm not privy to their approach to monetising their investment. Hopefully this summer will see us preparing for our second season in the premier league. If the team falls short there will, no doubt, be a significant test of the board's resolve to hang to the key players.
I too question some of the intentions. But I believe the riches by selling on, or reaching the premiership are two of the goals. Criticism is sometimes warranted and I’ve done so myself in meetings. It’s the downright abuse I object to.
Wholly agree with you, debate is healthy but just because we may have different opinions does not mean there is a need for abuse.
