Wonder what sort of capacity is reduced with the extra spacing. Could imagine probably 1/3rd less maybe if they did a full stand for instance.
Isn't it the same capacity as it would be for seating? Therefore, no reduction in capacity for an all-seater stadium.
I thought they had to make the gap in front of the seats wider so people if they did sit down could still allow people to walk past easily. Normal spacing doesn't allow that usually.
Don't know about that mate, you might be right. I know that if I stand at Oakwell with my seat folded up, people can easily get past me. There might be a few folk with bigger bellies than me that you'd struggle to get past..... Judging be the pictures of Ashton gate, all they've done is put a barrier behind the existing seats.
I couldn't care less about standing to be honest but let's not kid ourselves into thinking Hillsborough was due to standing. It was due to poor management (negligence) of the flow of fans entering the ground and the resulting crush that ensued.
It does look that way yeah judging by those pics. Just pointless having seats installed by the look of it. If someone did sit down, they wouldn't be able to see anyway with people standing and a barrier in their eye line. I don't see any risk of overcrowding in this day and age, they know a safe capacity of the stand by the layout should it have seats installed. Stick to all ticket in the area and there is no issue. Still prefer all seater stadiums though, mainly because of the view.
Having been to Hillsboro on numerous occasions,I am of the belief that the Leppings lane end is no better with seats in and is still a death trap.
Completely agree. Purely my opinion as well but the fans were completely cleared from the enquiry, whereas I still believe that any single person that entered that ground without having a ticket was also part of the problem, obviously accepting the decisions made by the police that day.
Surely capacity increases? Given that capacity reduced when they introduced seating. I’m certain I take up more space seated than I do stood.
I was thinking this earlier, but when you look at the safe standing, they all seem to have seats as well. I've yet to find an existing football stadium where I have really good leg room or I'm not getting intimate with the thighs of others next to me through no choice other than sitting down! So if they are going to incorporate a standing place plus a seat, the area has to be the same size as now at best. If thats the case, standing would surely cost more than sitting because of the capital cost to convert areas. I'm not sure fans or clubs particularly want to do that,
Very different grounds, very different safety standards. Standing was no problem at Accrington Stanley .
