Stern John off for a second bookable offence - his first was taking his shirt off to celebrate scoring a goal

    That's terrible isn't it

How much celebrating is over-celebrating when you've scored a goal that could possibly save your team from relegation? You'd have to break open the beers and put on a party hat to over-celebrate, surely?

    An idiot then

And last week when JCR did it, it partly spoiled the moment for me cause I knew he was going to be booked and was on a knife edge after that.

Just shows how stupid some players are

    Its a stupid rule

but Players know that its the rule so why they take off their shirts is beyond me

Refs are not allowed to show any common sense on this matter

I mean come on, its the reason anyone either plays in or watches a football game, for the goals and to celebrate them, isn't it?

Do they want everywhere to be likeMan u, where an arrogant shrug of the shoulders seems to be the norm after scoreing....

    (tumbleweed)

They can still celebrate without taking their shirt off

The players know it's a booking if they do it - that player could have ended up costing Southampton their place

A bit like John Hendrie for use 10 years ago you mean? Little shrug of the shoulders when scoring.

    tops off..

doesn't offend me if they want to celebrate that way.

I just think its a bit much, getting booked for it, when you can get the same punishment for othermore severe offences. ie bad tackle...

RE: They can still celebrate without taking their shirt off

exactly. What is the matter with players over the last couple of decades with childish/stupid celebrations. A quick handshake or pat on the back used to suffice. Ah well! I suppose we had to copy the bloody foreigners.
