I didn't go last night so can't comment on that, but some people must have seen different games to me last season. Without Togwell we would have been on the end of some right hammerings and would have been relegated. So whoever writes for TykesMad must have seen something different from me:

"When Sam Togwell and Dwayne Mattis (for his first appearance since February) ran out most people feared the worst. Over last season, in my opinion at least, those two have proved arguably the worst players at the club!"

"Togwell has surely been studying Johnson's defensive midfielder work as he snapped into tackles and dominated the engine room"

"Sam Togwell: Finally looked like a defensive midfielder. Snapped into tackles and played sensible passes. Maybe just maybe sitting in the stands and watching Johnson take his place has been the kick up the backside he needed."

What a ****. Togwell's been quality from day 1. His passing game sometimes leaves a bit to be desired, but fck me.

I don't agree at all either. BUT tough tackling I believe is key to a defensive midfielders duties. I don't believe Toggers got stuck in enough last season - lets hope he has learned from AJ in that respect.

He was superb last season, and is the unluckiest player in the squad this season to be left out so much. He has the makings of an excellent defensive midfielder, only a young lad.

If he could improve "in the tackle" i'd definately agree.

    I agree

Sam isn't the most skillful player and is never going to score many goals, but every team needs a midfield grafter like him. Would we have got to the Prem in 97 without Stumpy? Would Glavin and Banks been so good without McHale?
