1 goal in 22 games this season..... https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=56211 6 in 30..... https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=56211&season_id=153 2 in 17...... https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=56211&season_id=152 0 in 8..... https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=56211&season_id=151 So in the last four seasons he's only scored 9 goals in 77 games. So over the course of a long period of time he's averaging 2 goals a season from under 20 games. His goal scoring record is terrible, as is his injury record to not get close to playing a 40+ match season. If he's the answer we might as well sell Oakwell and get some flats built on it.
Basically if he was the old Sam Winnall Oxford wouldn't have released him. They'd probably have been promoted instead. If it were the old Sam Winnall I'd have him back in a heartbeat.
This ^ And for the same reasons, it is a no from me. Never go back. Oh, how desperate we have become.
We've a huge imbalance when it comes to forwards, so it's a no on that front. We'll no doubt sell some, loan some others out, but we're still likely to have 5 or 6 that we're going to have to try and get a tune out of.
If it was the Sam Winnall we sold then yes. I don’t really care about Peppa pig toys and goal celebrations. I’m also not convinced the announcement on the day of Rimmo’s funeral was much to do with him personally, though I was very annoyed at the time and I know some retain that anger. He’s worlds away from being the player we sold though. Injury prone, turns 32 during next season and he barely scored a goal in the past four seasons. He will do well to get a 12 month deal in league two next season. Absolutely not for me.
Just having a look through our squad. At the minute we could be starting next season with some of the following players who could operate in a front line, or have been tried there (includes players out of contract but no comment has yet been made on offering them a new contract or releasing them). Woodrow Thomas Morris Adeboyejo (out of contract) Oduor Cole Leya Iseka Schmidt Marsh Miller (out of contract) Oulare (loaned out) Thompson (out of contract) Bremang (not sure how long his deal is) Aitchison It's not a great list, but it's a very long one, and I don't see us being able to cost effectively get that down to a far more manageable and sensible number that is also good enough to get around 40-50 goals next season between them.
of those I can only see Iseka and Marsh being here. Maybe Atchinson. The rest will be sold / released loaned out. Though I guess we might give Schmidt another go.
