New season. First game (missed Swindon cos of hols). Ground (and especially the parking in the overflow field - someone will die in there if it continues to be used) was depressing. Weather appalling for August but at least footy is back. As always it is amazing to read the reports of other folk who were at the same game. Original Dazza and S.M.(balanced????) have their ****-coloured specs well and truly in place. Who do they think we are? Yes, we were second best for most of the first half but 1-1 was a decent score at the break. In the second half we should have easily won the game: Hayes just past the post; Hayes again making the keeper save; Shuker how did he miss?; two clearances off the line with the keeper beaten; even a shot on target from Nardiello for heaven's sake! They didn't create much until Austin (not a left back) let them score. Ritchie even gave us 4 up front at the end (and it vvvvnearly paid off with a good cross from Jarman that I reckon would've been a goal if Big Bazza had've beaten McPhail to the header). So, not a bad game. We aren't very good but then neither are any of the others. Came away disappointed but optimistic like all us true fans do.
Sense at last Missed the last few mins as buggered off dejectedly to car. Plenty for richtea to ponder Reasons for both pessimism & optimism hence the diametrically opposed views. Why Colgans in the pegs?.. god alone knows How Nardiello's going to get 30 by blaming everybody else for poor passing when he just stands around for 60mins waving his arms about god only knows....Missed pen has knocked him off course but a goal will get his season going. Will we have so many on target efforts again in one half and fail to score?...maybe once or twice in 46 games. When will we get the CH & LB we so desperately need...? Bloody disappointed?..Yes Predicting a season of doom?..Get real. Some sad buggers on here are just waiting for us to fail to say told you so. Lets hope over the next month or two these voices fade silently into the background.
RE: Sense at last Agree entirely about Nardiello. He has still to convince me. One glaring occasion towards the end of last nights game saw Nads looking for the ball and Shuker playing a perfectly decent ball through. Nads hadn't bothered to look for space but was just running with the defender. When he saw where the ball went and knew he couldn't get it he deliberately ran away from the ball and started remontsratinmg with Shuker for playing it down the wrong line.
Nads made run down centre... Shuker played ball down wing. Nothing the matter with the run or the ball - it was the right run for the right ball...or the right ball for the right run. I blame neither and both. Good to see these 2 "best mates" have such a telepathic understanding tho.
