Some woman was berating Craig Davies, calling him a 'lower league striker'. I couldn't get my breath.

Best striker at the Club since erm, Shipperley.

To be fair to the woman in question he is not a good footballer. He has a touch like a rapist - as Graham Taylor said of Carlton Palmer, "He can trap a ball further than I can kick one"!
However, whilst his close control is poor, when it comes to whacking the ball into the net, his record, both in terms of number and type of goals scored, speaks for itself. It took him a few games to find the fitness and confidence to compete at this level but he is scoring regularly and winning us games. I don't see what more you can ask for. If he had ball skills like Messi to boot, he wouldn't be playing in this league, let alone the lower leagues.

to be fair i agree with her

you cant argue that 9 goals is a good return but with the chances he has had he should have at least 15-hes good from 15-25 yards but when in six yard box or one-one with keeper he seems to go to pieces. his shots from 20yards wont go in every time so he needs ALOT of work on his close range finishing to be considered as good as shipps.- at minute id put him somewhere between conlon and liddle

Reminds me of Marc Richards... a striker who probably hasn't quite got the talent for this level but when confident can be a massive head ache for defenders and can smash a few in. The way Davies controls a ball and takes one on ones shows he's limited, but the way he whacks a few in shows he has the ability to be effective. I think he could be a good bet for 15-20 goals which is fantastic, but then he could also go ten games without scoring. I'm delighted with him to be honest, considering previously he's only had one excellent season amid average ones.

I've said it before on here. Davies is inexperienced at this level and is still finding his feet. His first touch can be improved but it won't happen over night.

I'm sure this will be something the player and coaching staff will be working on. 10 minutes of 1v1 at the end of training and he will soon start to improve. Most strikers only score with 20-30% of the chances they get.

He's a striker who has a good strike record - he's paid to score and he isn't doing a bad job. Between Conlon and lids? That's one hell of a gap!

I was referring to sambora's statement that he is somewhere between Conlon and Lids. I agree that he is right up there with Ships.

Best striker we've signed since Shipperley.

Some of you are unbelievable!!!! With some of the ***** that's posted on here about our players makes me ashamed to be a barnsley fan. To miss the chances you have to be in that position. Andy gray dosnt miss many chances...but he averages about 3 shots a season. That's not slating andy gray becasue he's a different type of striker so to speak. Davies is the beststriker we've had in years FACT!

What strikers have we had since Shipps? "Tallest Dwarf in the Circus" comes to mind.

He possibly is the best striker since Shipperly but right now he isn't as good as Shipps.

We had Bruce Dyer for 2 years after Shipperley went for a start and if anyone thinks Davies is better than Dyer they want egging. Loonies if you think that.

Actually mate, I said Davies is the best striker we've signed since Shipperley

And I stand by that. Davies isn't as good as Dyer, but then Bruce was signed before Shipperley. However, how many fans would always complain that Bruce was regularly being caught offside, conveniently ignoring the number of goals he scored? We've now got two decent strikers getting goals regularly at this level (the best since Shipperley & Dyer, in my opinion) and it's STILL not good enough! Some folk seem to have to find faults in players no matter what the lad may bring to the team. If Craig Davies was to score 20 goals this season, there'd still be some who'd find some nit picking problem with his return.

Re: to be fair i agree with......Chef Tyke

I put Bruce and Shipps in the same bracket mate. Davies is the best striker we have had since them. The competition isn't great but I can't understand why he is being criticised. He's excellent. He's the best striker we have had with his back to the goal since Ashley Ward - very strong. He does need to work on his distribution a little and his first touch at times. He is a striker with real natural ability that seems to have lost his way/not been coached in the right manner. Hill/Flicker seem to have a history of polishing rough diamonds and that is what they are doing here. We will benefit from that. It wouldn't surprise me if he is sold well in excess of a million within the next 18 months.

Strikers do miss chances, it's a fact of life. It's when they stop getting chances that you worry and he is very much responsible for creating those chances.

Aye he's a bit rough round the edges, but for a player who cost nowt he been cracking value for money and you don't score goals like he did at posh and agains leedshite if you are crap, seems to me if he has time to think when through on goal he'll mess it up,the less time to think the more likely he his to score.agree with big lil some folk are never satisfied its fookin' rare for us to have 1 goalscoring striker never mind 2 and folk are still griping what would the prefer davies or the likes macken, richards, oconner toiling up front.

Happy New Year everyone- I don`t post very often but have felt the need this morning.
I don`t think all these comparisons are particularly useful. We are in a very dfferent place to where we were 10/12 years ago and Craig Davies has given us something most of us would have only dreamed of over the lastfew years. I`m sure most on here have played sport of some kind at some level or another at some point and If you`re like me you make or made mistakes or you would have played at a higher level.
Let`s be grateful for what we`ve got and get behind them.
