I was thoruhg in wakefield visiting a good friend of mine and we decided to drive across to oakwell and take in the game vs swindon. I must say i was impressed with the team on the whole. The two forwards were outstanding and pulled the swindon centre backs all over the pitch, Nardiello's first touch and link up play looked outstanding. There was a good balnce on the flanks. But i thought Kay and burns were the weak links in the team. Kay gave 100% and won tackles and headers and made on eoutstanding block from a mistake by your keeper but hs positional play was very poor. Burns looked lightweight and held onto the ball for too lonf, often getting caught n possession. Mcphail look sgood though. I think a tough ball winning midfielder would compliment mcphails playmiaking skills well. I'd love to hear what you guys think about my comments!!!:)

Always good to hear an unbiased viewpoint

Know any Sunderland fringe players who may be able to do a decent job for us ?

I'd say you very very lucky...

to catch us on such a good day! Can you come again?

I thought Kay was outstanding 1st half, then became a little more anonymous as Carbon suddenly found his wings in the 2nd.

As for Burns...it's having a player like him that allows a player like McPhail to shine. Tho granted, I'd prefer Steven Gerrard there. Or Edgar Davids, ideal.

Burns is there to do the fetching and carrying enabling McPhail to act as playmaker; we have signed a kid called Richard Kell who's intended for that role who's supposed to be a tough tackler, but he's recovering from a broken leg.

Kay is a local lad who's developing into a bit of a jack of all trades (but master of none, unfortunately!). I think he's played in every outfield position and even within the management, the jury's still out on what his best position actually is!

It certainly ain't central defence, but yesterday was a 'needs-must' situation.

Appreciate your comments - good luck for the season, hope you stay up.

Paul Hart is on record as saying that he didn't know what Kay's best position was, and I'm pretty sure Ritchie is of the same view.

I wonder whether Ant himself knows?!
