Any recommendations for somewhere decent to eat in Notting Hill or Covent Garden areas? Any type of snap except Indian, English, Italian or Chinese, all of which we can get around Dodeth. No arty-farty places where you pay extra for empty space on your plate. Ta in advance.
Now then, my old friend, are you taking your own net curtain with you this weekend, or will you be utilising one of the hotel's? Oh, and would it be possible for one of your female entourage to take some piccies this time? Have a good 'un, mate.
It will be fun this time as I'm taking both my wives, so if I get locked naked out of one room I can always break into the other one. It's a good idea taking a net curtain, do they sell them at KDA?
I have this vision of 'Wanted' posters of you dotted all over hotels in the capital and surrounding area after your escapades in 2008!
Nice of you to leave us plenty of options mate I would suggest you go to Wahaca on Wardour Street. Mexican Street food. Jackson and Rye on the same street is pretty good as well, although not as relaxed as Wahaca.
I love Wahaca. One of the girls that finished runner up on MasterChef about five years ago. About 7/8 of them open now I think. We're just up the road in a pub if you fancy pre or post dinner drinks with some fellow reds fans.
Strongly recommend looking on time out with the cuisine you fancy, cheap eats especially. Avoid the chains and be brave and try an independent, some amazing places. Covent Garden is overpriced and a bit of a tourist trap. If you want curry, go down brick lane, dozens of excellent eateries and hawkers giving away discounts on the door. Oh, and very much recommend Shoreditch where a "little Vietnam" has sprung up. Several independent vietnamase places up there.
Burgers any good? We always head to this place if we're stuck in Cov Garden for food http://themeatmarket.co.uk/ Very New York style, but the burgers are great & not stupidly expensive.
Covent Garden isn't overpriced if you know the right places. Avoiding chains isn't the key to London these days. The best chain restaurants in the UK are in London and ones you don't find elsewhere. Even the burger chain quoted by Micky Finn is part of a chain (three in London, one in Brighton, one in Bristol and one in Leeds) and they're awesome.
Like everywhere, you need to get off the tourist trodden streets largely. and yes, the likes of Byron and Meat liquor are chains (burgers), but there are chains, and there are chains. Seen far too many tourists lured into the god awful main stream chains and pay over the odds. Lots of amazing little places around
There are 60+ Byron Burgers now. They'll be 100+ by the turn of the year. Wahaca that I recommended is a chain, but some of the best Mexican food I've ever had and ideal for informal social occasions. Treadwells in Covent Garden is a Marcus Wearing restaurant without the prices of Mayfair. Not cheap, but probably only 50% more than Grill Pit in Barnsley.
You seem to think i'm criticising wahaca. i'm not. Its easy for people who don't live in London or know it that well to go to places that are well known. I'm just suggesting other options that may not be known about to help a fellow barnsley fan out. Just as youre doing your good self.
Anyone know of where I might be able to get my usual Saturday night meal of Deep Fried Mars Bar and Chips?
