No, but our lass does. It drives me mad the amount of food that gets chucked in the bin.

Try looking round the back of any supermarket.
Its against the law even to feed the stuff to pigs.

some people do and eat for free; hippy types, have seen them on tv. Apart from apparently removing them of the sense of when it's time for a haircut it doesn't do them any harm as they only take stuff still in it's packaging, makes you realise how wasteful this country is in some ways, people in some countries would probably be absolutely shocked to see it.

Was in tesco other week with my mother and in the fruit and veg aisle there was a bin full of stuff that had been chucked in because it didn't look as good as it ought to. Pure waste because of the odd bump on it, fruit isn't meant to look perfect!

dint work like that though. in past some dodgy shopkeepers were selling goods that they'd had in the shop awhile as fresh stuff you could'nt tell till you opened like bread n milk then denying the'd sold it (no reciepts back then) in some cases people dint know or could'nt be bothered to argue n got food poisoning (a lot commoner a few years ago).plus people bought in everyday then you need to know how long you can store it nowadays with a weekly shop as the norm.

Food hygiene is just so much better now.
When did you last have a pint of milk go off?
I remember when it would regularly be off on the doorstep. But then we would make curd tart rather than waste it.

Me as well.....not only that though, she buys stuff without thought to what to use it for. About a month ago she bought a pack of 4 avocados, 3 weeks later i was throwing the entire pack out because they'd gone bad! One week she bought 3 items from Morrisons that were marked down because they were close to the date, they went bad and she said "Well, they were on offer!" Eh? shall we just buy everything they reduce then so we can throw them in our bin instead?!

    Tip for fruit.

For those that dont know bananas give off a gas (ethylene)when ripening so dont put them in a fruit bowl with other fruit because this will accelerate the ripening process of the other fruit and they will go off quicker.

If you buy fruit which is hard pears, peaches etc and you want to soften them put them in a paper bag with a banana for a day to speed up the ripening/softening process.

Housekeeping tips on the BBS what next.
