...whilst walking I saw little puppy playfully run into the road and go under the wheel of a bus. I couldn't sleep thinking about it. I keep wondering if I could somehow have stopped it - it was about 3 feet away from me. I keep telling myself that if I'd tried it could have been me under the wheel of the bus.

The howl of the dogs owner was quite haunting.

I had a similar experience on the Prince of Wales Road in Sheffield a few years ago.

A young dog was crossing the road with a group of young kids. The dog walked in front of a car doing 40mph and was knocked about 6 feet up in the air. It was dead when it was flying through the air. It was quite frightening to see.

I was glad it wasn't one of the kids.

Xmas Eve a few years ago, a dog ran out straight into the path of my car. I heard the thump and saw it run away. I stopped the car and chased after the dog. I was dressed upto the nines and in my heels so running after it wasn't easy, but I caught up with the little **** bag after a while and found it sat in its owners truck with a great smile on it's face!

My last dog was knocked down on Doncaster Road in Barnsley about 10 years ago. A guy driving a low loader took him to the vets and left a message for me saying what he had done. I never found out who he was, only that he lived in Wombwell, but if it wasn't for him my dog would have died. He had to have a leg amputated, but went on three legs for a further 9 years. So, if that low loader driver is reading this per chance, thanks!!

    Horrible feeling mate.

I had to watch my dog get run over some years back. Every now and again when walking her she use to pull on the lead for no reason, and this once she broke free, running riot around us playing(a little daft staffordshire pup). We couldnt get near her it was horrible, we knew we had to get hold of her because the road was a very busy en.(Just after needlewood,Kerry Hill?It was either before the bridge or just after, right before the 40 speed limit sign) Well she ran into the road and just sat there looking at us panting, all we could do was wave like made at the car bombing down the hill until he hit her. Once all the traffic came to a stop everyone was around her and she was gone! A really nice fella following the car that hit her helped us out and through her into his car, where she came round afew minutes into the drive. A miricle, never forget it.

Anyhow afew years later she went on to have 7 pups and is still going strong to this day, knocking on 12 years old. :)

It wasn't my dog, but it was near enough for me to hear bad, bad noises.

Apart from seing that dog killed in Sheffield the biggest shock Ive had was when a little boy came flying round a blind bend and wedged himself between my car and a wall.It was on Wainwright Place in Wombwell where there is no pavement on one side.

The wing mirror was broken off and I expected to find a body at the side of the car.
I got out the car as quickly as I could and heard this little voice say "sorry mister" as he draged his bike out and rode off like a demon. I was shaking for hours after that.

    Awful feeling.

Try not to dwell on it. I've seen a near miss and it's scary.

I ran over a hedgehog parking my car once and my hubby had to come and 'rescue' me - couldn't do anything about the hedgehog but I couldn't/wouldn't move the car. Sounds pathetic don't it but it still gets to me now.

Its amazing how we get attached to Dogs

I mean they only live for 10-15 years and thats if we are lucky. Death is not a nice feeling in any walk of like apart from cats, i hate cats. (don't really mean the death bit) but we know that if we live to a fair age and have dogs all our lives we will have to go through mourning of a family member (they do become one) a fair amount of times.

Its always sad when a family pet passes away and just as bad when you see something like you have pete. You'll get over the shock soon enough like I did when I was a kid (similar scenario). Its still not nice to see.....
