at least he could grind a result out when the odds were against us. imho he's the best england manager in my life time im ready for the abuse
Best manager since Robson , but then again we have only had 4 Taylor (cack) , Venners (extremely lucky but still cack) , Hoddle (oh dear) and Sven.
Whilst he wasnt up to much Sven wouldnt have lost tonight.

yes i remember italia 90 but opinions are like arseholes you couldnt fault svens record as england coach, fair enough he was negative with no back up plan but he didnt lose many competative games and he certainly wouldnt have lost tonight.
RE: yes i remember italia 90 well if you can remember how well the side played in italia 90 how the hell can you say that Sven was better than Bobby? FFS - WE GOT TO THE SEMIS - Sven never got past the quarters.
History looks better in hindsight Recall we were dreadful in the group stage and lucky to scrape through, and scrapped through against Cameroon as well. Not to say he wasn't the best manager I recall, just that we didn't particularly play that well in that tournament.
Take away the fact Hoddle was a complete Fruit Cake and I think we had a very good England manager, one of the last results under his management was battering the Czechs 3-1 (I think), and they were rated top 2 in the World then
RE: History looks better in hindsight yes very true didnt we draw with the dutch & irish & only just beat epypt 1-0 & like you say we scraped the win against cameroon & needed a last minute goal to beat belgium
Yes but... I agree... the group stages were a real stalemate but we still topped a very difficult group (remember how good that Holland side was? And that Ireland team was as hard as nails). We went through to play a very good Cameroon side that was full of pace and attacked like hell, and showed the resilience to come back and win. The game against Germany was awesome and we deserved a place in the final. Compare that to Sven's teams - we'd go out with a whimper every time, no resilience, lacked the ability to hold a lead, never mind come back from a goal down. We always went out in the quarter finals despite having a team good enough for the semis, and we always felt that in fairness, that deep down, we deserved what we got. No comparison. Sven wasn't Bobby's equal. Not at all.
RE: History looks better in hindsight To be fair..... the Dutch were lucky to get a draw out of us..... Okay, okay.... i know i'm clutching at straws... Ireland were somewaht lucky too if memory serves me right, but we certainly rode our luck against the Belgians and Cameroon. I thought we edged it against Germany in the semis though.
