Never had a problem with her foreign policy...

It was her domestic ones and her persecution of the working man and British Industry that was an utter disgrace!!

Aye, we were always such minnows in world politics before Thatcher, what with the Empire and the commonwealth and that.

A few months later and we'd have been right royally screwed as she had already agreed to the sale/scrapping of both carriers.

No one has said that your personal opinion isn't allowed. It just isn't liked or agreed with.

I always thought that honour belonged to Elizabeth I, William Pitt and was carried on by Gladstone, Churchill and others to a lesser or greater degree including Ted Heath who took the lead on Europe. Thatcher was buried as far up Reagan's arse as Blair was up Bushes, the only difference being she did it willingly, without selling out her ideologies in the process. :D

She embarked upon a mission to save her status as Prime Minister (the Tory knives were out). The fact that it involved people losing their lives over a scrap of desolate land that most of us had never heard of was beside the point. In fact I now realise that a portion of my hate for Thatcher should be reserved for Galtieri - without him she probably wouldn't have survived and gone on to cause the damage this country will never recover from.

It seems like you're the only one who's not allowing anyone else to have personal opinions.

i agree with Dragon tyke, and how people can say we were fighting over a little bit of land no one had heard of.well ya beyond me

Those people on that Island are British citizens just as much as you are and deserved protecting.

How you think that you because you live on the mainland are more important than someone 5 000 miles away is a disgrace

I agree with you, probably for the first time ;-)

The reaction over here just shows you how much respect she earned overseas. Didn't agree with all of her domestic policies but she got foreign policy spot on, IMO. Best British politician in my lifetime - guts, determination - better than any of the spineless b@stards that have followed, at any rate.

It was a deserted island which was colonised by the British 100's of years ago. Pretty much the same as the whole of South America. At least we didn't kick out the indigenous people like the Spaniards did in Argentina.

If it wasn't Thatcher's government it would have been some other. The steel industry was totally screwed up and costly. I was working in France on oil topsides that were being built for the British sector of the North Sea. The steel we used was contracted to be British, however it was so laminated it couldn't be used and had to be ditched in the sea outside French territorial waters, in order that we didn't have to pay TVA on it. The steel was then ordered from Germany.

The miners were led by a commie, who they followed like sheep, and who was determined to bring down the elected government of this country. The coal was becoming too expensive and with cheaper imports the electricity board prefered to purchase from overseas.

As for the motor industry, rust on wheels, sleeping nightshifts, Red Robbo etc. it was bound to fail.

Her legacy involves the destruction of communities, the elevation of personal greed over social values and legitimising the exploitation of the weak by the strong."

Mate, i wear my Falklands medal with pride and i would wager that if you could ask all the heroes that lost their lives wether they would still go and fight, most would answer yes.
