An hour or two ago I disconnected my who electronics set-up in the living room. TV, Telewest, DVD Player, DVD Recorder / Hard-Drive and the Playstsation 2. I was left with plenty of scart leads. Upon closer inspection, all the scart leads were the same - bar one. 4 were 21 pin scarts, the other only had 9 pins in each end.
So the question is - whats the difference between a 21 pin and a 9 pin?
(The answer im looking for isn't 12 pins either before some smart-arse pipes up ) Is it something to do with playback quality? Or sound? Or shouldn't i tmake a plain bit of difference?

Obviously it makes a difference as a 9 pin isn't going to connect as much. For instance with digital telly and a widescreen set one pin sends the signal to determine if the programme is widescreen for TV to automatically adjust (if you have it set that way) I suspect the 21 pin is for the digital telly.
RE: This explains what each pin does Explains the 9 pin as well....so you can see what else you get in the 21 pin - for example the left/right audio channels. Pin 8 does the widescreen switching.
RE: This explains what each pin does Just ordered myself a 21pin gold connector scart from ebay.
Cheers mate
