According to the paper there are plans to bring back the cane in schools -- excellent!

In a recent poll 78% of parents agreed that other people's kids should be caned.

You could be right, its probably gone too far now with all the indiscipline and lack of respect for people.

Why is it down to schools to teach discipline and respect. Parents should do it. And parents who can't/won't shouldn't have kids.

There are far too many ****wits procreating; I'm starting to like China's single-child policy.

Correct. Discipline should start at home

Parents wanting to pass the buck to the schools to try and bring their unruly kids into line.

Unless the kids learn respect from infancy and are disciplined (if needed) at home, leaving it to the school would only result in a teacher being shot or stabbed.

I got slippered a few times at school, but if my old man ever found out, I'd get it twice as bad at home.

Barbaric. Lack of parenting skills causes this and parental responsibility. The lack of respect is ingrained in kids before they even get to school.

I agree entirely except if 'little angel johnny' got caned at school his dad would go to duff up the teacher and his mum would call 'injury lawyers 4 U'

Is it a problem with kids these days though? when I was at school older people said the same thing, now people my age are saying it about kids of today. I would hazard a guess that when every single person on this BBS was at school there were older people saying 'kids today have no respect' and the reason for that is short memories and people pretending that their generation were angels. Well they weren't.

The fear of facing that made it work.

Violence isnt the answer and beating 'respect' into somebody is completely wrong. Some of the teachers are on a massive ego trip (SOME not all) and some teachers take an instant dislike to some pupils. These kind of teachers would love nothing more than to beat kids at the first chance they get and that is completely completely wrong.

True we had some little sods when we were growing up but I do think things are getting worse - taught in schools for 20 years and I've noticed a big difference in behaviour. It must at home though - only in school for a short fraction of a time.

I think it is at home and in part because kids are constantly being told that they are scum, if they get told it often enough it wont be long until they believe it and act like it.

Agreed, violence breeds violence. I didn't smack my kids, I didn't need to. I very rarely shouted at them, my missus did enough shouting. When I told them something I meant it and I explained why. They were taught to respect authority figures and fortunately they've both turned out well.

My wife did have a way of frightening them though. On smoking 'if you smoke you die' no halfway house there !
