A game which the media would no doubt call the Thomas derby if it was in the Premier League. We've been made early 11/10 favourites by the bookies. Largely because of our run of 4 games unbeaten away, 7 home and away, and being in the only team other than Wednesday to feature in the top 4 of the form table over 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 games. Bristol Rovers got back to winning ways last week with a 3-0 away win at an Oxford side who themselves are in desperate form. This ended a run of 7 games without a win for the Gas, 6 of which were defeats. Prior to that, Rovers had only lost 3 of their previous 16 league one games going back to the start of October. They got into a good habit of simply outscoring the opposition. Defensively however, they are the 3rd worse side in the league, with Burton and Forest Green the only sides who have leaked more goals. At home, Bristol Rovers have just the 18th best record in the league. They've won just 1 of their last 5 home league games, which include defeats to Burton and MK Dons. Historically, we have only faced Bristol Rovers away once this century. Having given permission for his squad to go out and celebrate their promotion in the week, Daniel Stendel's side went a goal up before being overcome by the Gas on the final day of the 18/19 season. Prior to that, our last meeting at the Memorial Ground was a 5-1 victory in 1992. In fact that is 1 of only 3 victories we've enjoyed at Rovers, with the other two coming in 1958 and a Cup game in 1910 en route to us reaching the FA Cup final. The Bobby Thomas effect. Since being recalled from Bristol Rovers, the Gas have lost 5, drawn 1 and won 1. Since making his Barnsley debut, the reds have won 6 and drawn 1. I fancy us to extend our unbeaten run in this one. I think it's a very tricky game on paper, but given the respective form of either side, I fancy us to come out on top. I'm going for 0-1 with Norwood getting the goal.
Id be tempted not to play Thomas. Barton will have instructed his team to do him damage, I have no doubt of that. Blokes a psycho.
I fear a tough game in which every player will need to keep their discipline - if we go down to ten, it will be even harder. Rovers have a poor disciplinary record, but have mastered some of the dark arts, for sure. If the game is firmly and consistently refereed and we get the ball down and play, i would fancy us to win. If we lose discipline, it might not be so positive. At least a draw, but we need to win every week now.
The form table suggests an away win. Barsteward Barton anything could happen . My heart says 2 0 . My head just depends whether they get under our skins. We're better than them. Take each game I'm more confident Saturday than against Portsmouth at home.
3-1 to Brizzle. Just think our bubble will burst this weekend and then panic will set in all round. Really hope not though.
