I didn't put much effort into previewing this game last time around. Subconsciously I must have known it was going to be postponed. Derby have 1 win in 5. Prior to that they'd won 4 out of 5. Away from home, they've lost 6 of their last 8. 5 of which they failed to score in. They have the 19th best away record in the league, scoring just 13 times away from home all season. Despite being managed by England's all time top goalscorer, only Wycombe and Wednesday have scored fewer goals than the rams this season (25). Defensively however, they've only conceded one more goal than us. Our home form against Derby isn't too bad. We've won 7 of the last 14 ties at Oakwell, drawing 4 and losing 3. Although our last home league win vs the Rams came 4 1/2 years ago. Having listened to a few championship podcasts in recent weeks, it seems Derby's poor January recruitment has done them no favours in their slip back towards the relegation zone. 34 year old Colin Kazim-Richards appears to be their main threat. A player who we were interested in signing many moons ago, however a certain Mark McGhee allegedly blocked the move, as he felt Kazim-Richards wasn't up to championship standard (then sold him to Premier league Sheffield Utd) allegedly. I fancy us to win this one comfortably. 2-0 with Mowatt and Morris on the scoresheet. 8 in a row, 4 points clear of 7th, happy days.
I was going to predict a comfortable win, 3-0 but the weather forecast isn’t great for Wednesday night, gales and heavy rain. So could well be a leveller. However, I still feel we’ll win 1-0
I'm really interested in this one. In the last three games we've come up against three experienced managers, all of whom I think have adjusted their system specifically to try and break our game. From what I can tell Derby generally try to play out from the back but aren't particularly good at it, which suits us down to the ground. I'm intrigued as to whether Rooney's going to have the guile/experience (or cowardice, arguably, in the case of Karanka) to try and adjust that, or if he'll stick to the system and try to break the press traditionally.
The law of averages must come into play at sometime & I have a feeling that this will end up 1 v 1 , hope I am wrong but getting anything out of this game is a bonus , hope it is 3 points but 1 would not be the end of the world
If we're genuine play off contenders, its this sort of game that will give us a really good clue. We've hit top 6 for the first time, this is the game in hand to extend the gap to 4 points and immediately face the 7th place team within days. That's a whole different type of pressure to battling at the bottom or mid table safety with not much to play for. I've no doubt Ismael will do everything to get them up for it and it should be a game we win well. We'll either win 4-0 or lose 1-0.
If weather as predicted (gales and rain) I would go for big mozza and dk upfront - shake them rooney boys up a bit with the usual high tempo - we generally play well in adverse conditions - 2-0 to the reds (mozza and dk)
