Wednesday find themselves in 3rd place after a solid start to the season. They've won 4, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their first 6 league games. At home, they haven't conceded a league goal since letting in 3 on the opening day against Portsmouth. They're currently the 5th best home team, behind 4 sides who have a perfect home record (2 of which we've already faced away). At Hillsborough, our record isn't the best. Although we did actually win on our last visit there in 2020, with Cauley Woodrow and Dom Frieser on the score sheet in a 2-1 win. That victory ended a run of 6 games without a victory at Hillsborough, and the 2009 win ended a losing streak going back to the 80s. The victory in 2009 when Campbell-Ryce netted the winner, coincided with the closing of the transfer window, where we gave a number of players their debut, including Adam Hammill. Whilst on paper this one looks very tough, a criticism of Wednesday so far this season has been their tendency to completely switch off and give up lots of chances, albeit generally away from home. I'm going to remain optimistic and go for a 0-1 win, with Aitchison scoring the winner. Cue the usual culprits predicting 4+ goal hammerings... You reds!!!
I’m going for 1-1 Wednesday taking a first half lead, but Josh Martin off the bench to rescue a point. Bit of a Harvey Barnes feel to it.
I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet as we’re just conceding for fun at the moment (That’s not including last night) and Wednesday are in a bit of a free- scoring mode at the moment. Apparently they’ve just signed Mighten from Forest so that’s another boost for them. Early days I know, but I can see it being a good season for them. Unfortunately I can’t see anything for us on setday. 2-0 the Fowls, or maybe we might nick a late goal and make it squeaky bum time for them. Here’s hoping I’m so wrong and we stuff em.
There's only one thing going to happen on Saturday....so might as well just go for a walk, might even go shopping with the missis Then find out at 5 o'clock how the ref has managed to screw us over this time.....
I’ll optimistically say 1-1 - but realistically wouldn’t be too disheartened by a narrow loss so long as we turn up and give them a game. Our season isn’t dictated by results away at Derby, Ipswich, Wednesday, Portsmouth - even Peterborough. The home games after that I’d be hoping for at least three or four points. Pompey are good but we should be able to compete at home.
No surprise really. Many have started to give Hillsboro a miss these days after past experiences. I hate the place......
I can’t make it as my lad has a rugby festival to play in at Wortley (wouldn’t have taken him anyway, don’t trust our fans or their stewards, but I might have gone) - but plenty will refuse to pay Sheff Wed £26 on principle given they refused to agree to £20 is plenty. It’s a bloody hovel of a place, we are treated like animals there (though to be fair many of our ‘supporters’ behave like animals there) - and 2020 aside we always seem to get beat. In any spawny, poxy way possible for them. Taking 2k isn’t awful. And we’ll probably sell a few more before the game.
