Sat in a bar full of Scots here in Tenerife Ian,and apparently there are 3 ex internationals among them. Don’t ask me who they are think one is called Willi they looked to be around 50yrs old, good lads ,and I have to say Scotland played really well after they had conceded.
Neither of Willie Garner or Ralph Callachan we’re internationals - and are of a bit of a different vintage to McNamara too, both in their sixties, he’s only mid forties so probably wouldn’t thank you for saying he looks fifty! Guessing the other two might mind.
Hi Roger. Know of all 3 mate. Callaghan I remember playing for Hibs and Garner playing for Aberdeen both through the late 70s and eighties. As for McNamara saw him play for Celtic, Aberdeen and Dunfermline but I have little time for him after his disastrous time at Dundee United as manager where between him and the crook and clown of a chairman both sold the club down the river ending in relegation 3 years ago. I did meet McNamara last year in Malton N. Yorkshire. He had some position upstairs with York City at the time. I watched Harrowgate v York that day. I did get a picture with him but he will never get on my Christmas Card list.
