Interesting B66. My daughter stay in Shetland with her partner who is born and bred Shetlander. I asked him if he considered himself Scots or Shetlander. He is a Shetlander. Would love nothing else than for his Islands to be independent and the Shetland community left alone to get on with their self sufficient lifestyle. You have no idea just how laid back life is there. They have everything we all have but the stress of a hectic lifestyle. They don't even lock car or house doors. An absolutely great place for my daughter to bring up my grandchildren. I can understand why they would like to keep it to themselves.
Cheers Ian. I had no idea that there was such a feeling in the islands. Do you think they will get their referendum? It seems a bit hypocritical for Alex Salmon to demand one for Scottish Independence, yet refuse the Islands' one. I have read some lovely reports about life in the islands. I presume there are some down sides, but the positives really outnumber the negatives. You must be really pleased for your grandkids
