    Tons of abuse apparently.

If I was in the public eye I doubt very much I'd have one for this very reason, but I'm still saddened that one of our players has had to put up with this. I personally think Scott has struggled to come to terms with the position he has been asked to play this season, but I wouldn't dream of sending him abuse on Twitter, or any other medium come to that. I just can't understand the mentality of those that do this type of thing.

    Chin up Scott.

Totally agree. The people who have abused Wiseman, or anybody, on Twitter are nothing more than keyboard warriors. I find it very worrying that people think it's acceptable to behave in this manner.

Ridiculous. Some people need to get a life.
He has never given short of his best and we all make mistakes in our jobs.
I just don't get the fascination with Twitter, Facebook and the like.

A grand total of 8 direct tweets in the last month. I wouldn't call that tons. However, I'd call it 8 idiots (well, 5 actually because Glen Dowle is responsible for 3 of them).
"tha wannk #RochdaleReject #KeithsLovechild" was one of them. Not much different from what I read on here and hear at Oakwell. The difference being these messages were direct. Which I don't condone.
I have often criticised him and others on twitter, but never directly.
Now, the 'tons' of abusive tweets must have been indirect. As in, just folk tweeting in general, saying they think he's wannk. Which they are entitled to do, IMO.
So the only way he'd see these tweets is by doing a 'Wiseman' search. And if that is the case, then he's as soft off the field as he clearly is on it.
Thicker skins needed at Oakwell. Earn 10 times my wage, and I get abuse every night at work. Fair do's, it's usually warranted and I am a lovely person but still...
Folk are dying, and yet a well paid footballer leaves twitter and it's devastating.
    .
Please remember, those who have directly tweeted him abuse are morons. But jeeez. Get some perspective.

Mindless idiots, using a keyboard to make themselves sound big, when they're not.

Hasn't that name cropped up before? I seem to remember him giving abuse to another player/s on twitter but I can't remember who.

    Re: Who you talking to?

What's with all the 'get some perspective' malarkey? Do you come on here to discuss the AIDS epidemic in Africa or the crisis in the middle east or the threat of a rogue nation getting their hands on nuclear weapons or, as you put it, 'folk dying'? No, you post about things relating to Barnsley Football Club. Scott Wiseman is a Barnsley player, he's shut down his Twitter account and according to a journalist from a local newspaper it's because he feels he's getting abused. Is this the most important topic in the world today? Of course not. But neither is what Keith Hill has said this week, or the relative attributes of Jimmy McNulty, or what Hemsworth Tyke has said to you, or whatever subject on Barnsley football club you happen to have chosen to write about. But no one is telling you to get some perspective.

We all know there are far more important things in this world than the goings on at Oakwell. Everyone is fully aware that the health and well being of family members and the catastrophes and injustices around the planet make the concerns of a football club pale in to insignificance. But if we spent all day, every day worrying about the big things it would drive us all nuts. So we like to talk about the fluff. Some people talk about pop music, others about the soaps on the telly, while on here we like to talk about Barnsley football club. It's meaningless really, but it's the fluff that gets us through the day. And we can do without a lecture about how small minded we are for talking about it, particularly from someone who seems as keen as us to talk about such fluff.

    Yay, a rant.

There's a difference between abuse and discussion....

and it sounds like alot of what Scott Wiseman is abuse rather than a constructive assessment of his ability / performance etc. Does anyone really think he's intentionally making mistakes?

IMO this board has, in recent times, also become a forum for individuals to abuse others - whether it's players, the manager, staff at the club or other board users. If whatever you have say isn't what you'd say if you met them face to face then I don't think you should post it on here.

If you would repeat it face to face then fine. I'm sure some folks on here would say they would have the conversation direct with the people they're spouting about but would they - really?

Constructive criticism with the objective of helping the receipient to become better at whatever it is they do - good, insults and abuse with no positive intent - bad.

I'd have no qualms telling Hill that Wiseman isn't good enough face to face and that his tactics are usually crap.

He would then have the option of ignoring me or telling me to F off telling me I don't know what I'm talking about

I think SW needs to man up a bit. I don't condone verbally abusing anybody, but you're a supposed footballer, either do what JOB does and fight fire with fire by winding the morons up or simply rise above it.

Oh, and I deleted Twitter because it's full of individuals sucking up to Z list celebrities and footballers.

Fair enough, but it's all about context. There are ways and means of getting your point across in a reasonable and respectful manner.

Dishing out personal abuse on Twitter is out of order IMHO.

But would you tell Wiseman face to face?....particularly if you dropped on him whilst he was exercising his Rottweiller, having had a gallon of ale and a blazing row with his missus!!!
