Not only is that clearly mental and environmentally unsound, it doesn't even sound cost effective. The Chinese workers are obviously paid much less, but when you factor in the transport costs I bet the difference in profit margins between sending it to China or doing it all here is minuscule. Put 1p on every fillet of cod and stop ******* about. As for the consumer, they're buying a product that has been frozen and thawed three times. It's no wonder supermarket fish tastes like ****. Every frozen product you can buy has 'do not refreeze once thawed' on the label. http://www.heraldscotland.com/scotl...cod-s-10-000-mile-trip-to-your-table-1.826905
Ice-pops? Sorry I'm being daft. To be serious I agree with your post completely, it just doesn't make sense at all, I just can't believe they save a fortune by doing this.
Added to which all the containers going back are filled with our rubbish so we can say we are meeting landfill/recycling targets
Incorrect , the only waste exports are plastics or other recyclables , we do not export landfill rubbish , unless you have evidence to the contrary
Unfortunately transport costs by sea are miniscule in comparison to air and road. When you have ships capable of carrying up to 10000 containers on a single journey, crewed by cheap foreign labour you can see why cost effectiveness is why this disgraceful action takes place. Read "Deep Sea and Foreign Going: Inside Shipping, the Invisible Industry that Brings You 90% of Everything" by Rose George for more information. I work in shipping, thankfully for a wholly British run and operated company. But when you look at the main players whose crews are multi foreign and cheap we will never be able to compete. http://rosegeorge.com/site/books/deep-sea-and-foreign-going
I have a feeling you've been Daily Mailed! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...How-carefully-sorted-waste-dumped-abroad.html https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...nt-for-recycling-is-dumped-in-landfill-abroad
Hmmm, I thought it was legal for it to go for incineration too? http://www.letsrecycle.com/news/lat...nt/exporting-rdf-2018better2019-than-landfill To be honest I don't have an issue with incineration if it produces energy, and certainly not with recycling, but it seems to defeat the point if it is shipped half way round the world first
