For me he should start next week, maybe in place of Brownhill (even though that would be harsh), because he changed the game when he came on and gave us complete control in midfield. It is nonetheless a tough call as Brownhill has been playing so well, but I just feel that Scowen gives us more control, and may have helped against Southend, as both they and Fleetwood yesterday tried to bully us Next week I would play a team something like this: (if Bree and Watkins unavailable) Davies G Williams Mawson Roberts Smith Chapman Hourihane Scowen Hammill Tuton Winnall
The only player I would bring him in for would be Fletcher. Hes good in that advanced position imo. Watkins should be fit next week anyway. Saying that a Watkins/ Scowen partership would be good and that would allow Hammill to be a little higher up the field.
On the Bench. Heckinbottom isn't scared to leave him out. He did it last week. He wouldn't have been back in imo if Watkins was fit yesterday.
He did last week. Steve Bruce did on Friday night. It happens all the time. Giroud been dropped recently
When we've got the strength of Arsenal's squad I'll accept you can rotate on occasions. Who have we got available up front next week? Winnall, Watkins and Tuton? If Winnall doesn't start I'll be amazed.
OK Phil, we don't have the resources that Hull or Arsenal have so you have to consider these crucial points. 1: Winnall is our best striker. 2: We could afford to leave him out last week because we had Fletcher and Watkins. 3: We don't have Fletcher for the next game.
Winnall wasn't fully fit for the Southend game which is probably why he was on the bench as he'd had a knock on the ankle & missed the Crewe game. Heckinbottom then said how impressed he was with his 30 minute showing & he started yesterday. That to me's not a dropped player, that someone not been rushed back from injury
I'm saying it's the norm in football. He probably could start but circumstances aren't desperate enough for them to start him. If we didn't have two other decent strikers he'd have probably been rushed back. See Newcastle with Cisse coming back from injury today only been on the bench. Arsenal & Liverpool did the same with Welbeck & Sturridge. They aren't dropped they're just been carefully brought back from injury. Managers often tell fibs. I don't class it as lying as they're just playing the game & trying to gain an advantage. When Heckinbottom was asked for an injury update on Thursday I don't believe he mentioned that Watkins was going to miss the Fleetwood game. Just like he didn't mention that Isgrove had been ill all week before the Southend game.
