Wouldn't mind either getting back to the EFL, but I do like Scunny. Old Farmhouse would have been rocking.
Enjoyed visiting Glanford Park in the past, such a shame they've fallen so low but hopefully they're on their way back.
23k there today. Would be nice to see Bradford and Donny come up from League Two and for Huddersfield to stay in League One and there could be some cracking games next season.
I had the opportunity to watch a lot of Scunny for a couple of years, and witnessed their fanbase force out a shocking owner before it was wound up, then see a local consortium of fans take over. They were close to promotion last year, but lost in the playoffs. They look favourites to win the league this time. Will be harder in the national league. I’ve had the pleasure of watching a lot of that this season, and the standard is better than you’d think. There’s at least 10 clubs who wouldn’t look out of place in the EFL. Some proper northern clubs. I’ll say one thing - it feels like proper football down there. A few thousand watching lads earning a few hundred quid a week. I don’t think that’s helped my perception of the tripe on show at Oakwell this season. Watching worse players earning 10 times the cash.
Yeah, my family on my late grandmothers side are from Bradford. I always look out for their results. My lad went with his neighbour, who’s a Col Utd fan. It was a fiver in today, and they even got a couple of decent pints in Spoons for £1.99 each.
I saw a few Scunny games back in the 90s, including a trip to Wembley, as a mate of mine is a fan. It’s sad to see both them and Chester down there, especially when you think of the great players they provided Liverpool with, although a Chester supporting mate of mine back in the day assured me that Stuart Rimmer was a far better player for them than Ian Rush! Hopefully Scunny can start the climb back this season, but the Conference looks a tougher league to get out of every year. The top 8 are ex-league clubs, all expecting to be back in the league before too long. With 14 ex-league clubs in the Conference it’s about time it formed a 5th EFL division, with 3 up 3 down. But I guess the Premier League might then have to part with a few more quid from their billions and they wouldn’t like that.
When was Glanford Park built, was it 88ish? Before then Scunny played at the Old Show Ground which, if memory serves me right, was situated on top of a hill.
It was near the town centre, where Sainsbury's is now. A very ramshackle old ground but full of character and probably woodworm.
