Sd stated that they didn't want to beak the wage structure for someone who was not proven at championship level. It sounds as though Jamie Ward wanted the same money (or maybe more) as the established players at the club.

SD was comparing JCR with Jamie Ward - and he pointed out that JCR had proved himself and earned an improved contract (having started out on a lesser deal). Apparently, Ward & the club were quite a long way apart money wise....

Has Davey talked Ward up too much in the press?

I read an article by davey saying that Ward was the best player in the world ever and had already proved himself etc. No wonder he feels he deserves a good contract

    Hmmmm

Obviously if you go for a player he's going to assume you rate him, but it is possibly a tad naive to be so complimentary in the press and such like.

However, it could also attract a player to think someone rates them so highly.

    Difficult one.

To be fair I think Davey's spot on with this one and think his comments on the club site are about as well thought and sensible as I've heard from a manager in a long time
