Time: Day two after the sacking of manager K. Downhill Location: Directors office, Bransley Football Club Present: Director D. Lowing, Director B. Sailor knocks on door and enters Lowing: Oh, hello there! Good to see you again, I’m getting a bit bored all by myself in this office. Sailor: A very good morning to you! Have you had time to reflect more on the situation? Lowing: The situation..? Oh aye, you mean about the manager? Yes, I talked to a couple of people at the golf club last night and I think we should get another manager in. They seemed to think it would send out signals about us lacking ambition if we didn’t find a new manager. I guess they’re right. Anyroads, must listen to the customers you know! Sailor: Quite, quite. I do think we have another match coming up soon too, haven’t we? Lowing: Oh, you mean next Saturday? Oh but there’s plenty of time before that! Sailor: I believe there is some kind of cup match as well, isn’t there? Lowing: I’m really not sure. There are so many competitions. I wish sometimes we could have resigned from everything but the league. But we can ask Doris – and get her to bring us some tea! ((Lowing buzzes the intercom, asks secretary to bring two cups of tea, Doris arrives in office with a tray, confirms that there really is a cup match coming up soon, then leaves the room)) Lowing: If people expect a new manager soon, isn’t there something we can do to calm them down a bit? It is going to take a lot of time this… Sailor: Yes, I think I might have an idea. Isn’t it rather common that assistant managers take over when a manager is sacked..? Lowing: Hmmm, is it? I really don’t know too much about that… Sailor: Well, I think it is and maybe we can do it too? I mean, ask the assistant to take over! Lowing: Well yes, but do we have an assistant manager? I’m really not sure who that would be then. Sailor: Isn’t it that fella they call Ticker or Micker or something? The one who used to work a lot with Downhill ?!? Lowing: Oh, him! I thought he was one of the players Downhill brought with him when he came over here. But come to think if it, I have never seen him play for us, I just thought he had some kind of long term injury or something. Sailor: No, he must be some kind of assistant, I’ve even seen him on television after some matches! Lowing: Oh but if he is assistant manager, then I think we have a solution. We just tell him to keep doing what he’s done until know, plus Downhill’ s job of course. Splendid idea, old chap! Sailor: Thank you, thank you! Lowing: I’ll tell Doris to inform him straight away. Ah, good to have this settled. What do you reckon, don’t you think we deserve to take the rest of the day off now and do some golfing? Sailor: Terrific idea, I’ll get the car out, see you in a minute. ((to be continued)) Did you miss the first part of this?
