No one can say whether we'll stay up or not but it's a fact that Struber has made a huge difference so far. Here are the stats:- P W D L F A Pts Pts/game Scored/game Conceded/game Daniel Stendel 11 1 3 7 8 22 6 0.55 0.73 2.00 Adam Murray 5 0 3 2 8 11 3 0.60 1.60 2.20 Gerard Struber 24 9 5 10 29 29 32 1.33 1.21 1.21 Total 40 10 11 19 45 62 41 Based on this I would venture that if we can stay up, nest season could be rather less wearing on the nerves/emotions than this one !
Sorry about the messy format - spent several minutes spacing it out and then when posted all this was collapsed. Will post a table using a different format....
its an interesting stat skewed by many factors, the main one however is Stendel asking for and being denied the 3 experienced players Struber ended up with. Ive no idea if our gung ho style might have been more or less effective early on with those 3 players but it would have been nice to have found out, If we stay up we seem to have worked out a method for coping right now, could be interesting next year
We definitely needed experience, but let's have it right, we were a total shambles defensively under Stendel in the Championship. Particularly defending set-pieces. We were so schoolboyish it was genuinely embarrassing in some games. Preston away was one of the worst defensive performances I've ever seen.
I think that shows that they should have parted with Stendel as soon as the love left the room. It also shows that Murray didn't have a clue and we took too long getting Struber in.
I'm glad they spent a few weeks getting the right person in rather than haphazardly appointing whoever was available. Remember Morais?
Way ahead of his time Morais. How was he to know that kneeling on all fours and roaring like a lion in the changing room wasn't going to inspire Hammill, Bradshaw, Gardiner, Mcburnie and Moore.
Struber’s current ppg would have given 61 points over 46 games - and he might yet improve it in the last six. He’s done brilliantly well, not quite a fair comparison though - as mentioned - as he was allowed to sign a bit of experience. But he’s done a great job, long may it continue. Plus he looks like Voldemort dressed as Pep Guardiola. Nothing to dislike.
