And ignoring the fact that he didn't know one of his team mates etc ... Didn't anyone else like to see us winning a header in midfield? I can't remember the last time we did that ... ever ... I'm sure that there'll be more to come from him.
RE: weakest debut ever I don't agree. I think that his debut was uninspiring but nowhere near as bad as some on here would make out. It's the same old story that some people on here had decided he wasn't up to it before he even kicked a ball. Unless he scored two, created two and pulled off a blinding goal line clearance before lobbing their keeper from 80yards he was always going to be sh*te to them. I don't know why any player would choose to sign for us. We have to be the worst 'fans' anywhere in the football league. Crap attendances, no support for the team, in fact quite the contrary, we actively persecute those players we don't like ... but we still expect to be flying up the table. It's okay though, because we can then all turn round and bleat about how we were right and how the board and management were utter crap ... that means more to us than trying to get behind the team and stop that from happening.
RE: weakest debut ever couldnt agree more. minds already made up before he'd even kicked a ball. next stop: Mattis Watch.
Disagree. Seen him play once this season for Bury. Box to box - played well. I was hoping he played brilliantly & scored a double hat-trick. The fact is - he was playing alongside a much better attacking midfielder ... but just kept wandering forward - which debased the effect of our best play-maker. At times he looked lost. His control constantly let him down & his big strides make him look slow, clumsy & lazy. I hope he gets better - as I won't write anyone off. My point is - the Manager brought him in ... when even Dwayne himself didn't think he'd get a game.
Give the lad a chance ffs! he only signed 2 days before we stuck him into a team that is underachieving. We were down at least 1 player, so some of the lads weren't even playing in their normal positions. Let's give him a decent run out before we start slating him and saying he is **** judging by 1 performance!
RE: weakest debut ever Sorry mate you have got that one wrong. To say that Mattis was poor was an understatement, apart from one or two heading moves he was shocking. Now whether that be nerves, stepping up 2 leagues i don't know but i am willing to let the guy settle in before we can make a permanent assesment on whether he will be good enough. On the evidence on saturday i can't see were he can improve our squad. Sorry but thats my very humble oppinion. And while i'm on this board let me just say that if Barnsleyfc had brought in two or three quality players, who have done it at this level at the begining of our campaign, and maybe one or two in this January sales. Then we wouldn't be in this ***** that we are now in. The players would have got to know each other ,settled in and knew how everyone played. Now we have an ever changing team with panic buys from lower leagues who don't know their arse from their elbow, an ever increasing changing system, playing players out of position and keeping some of our best players on the bench, A team that is a mish-mash of a squad, poor quality for this league, and it spells a reciepe for relegation. (titanic)
Blame the manager for throwing him in at the deep end. Against Preston we should have started with Howard and Togwell in central midfield.
I thought he was OK too, slow to start as you'd expect moving uo 2 divisions, but won ball later on,and his chest down gave Nads the chance that hit the post.
