And bearing in mind the many home games in December and how much people's pockets take a beating over Christmas, wouldn't it be nice if the club made Walsall a tenner and a fiver for concessions ?
And how much of a boost would it be if, having done so, our fans responded with a gate of 12 or 13,000? Everyone's happy - Barnsley and Walsall get a some nice gate receipts, and our club's slow and painful climb back to health and sanity takes another positive step?
That'd be the ideal scenario. I certainly think Ritchie, Holden et al and those on the pitch are doing their best to get the fans back.
I suggested....... ....the same for the Hartlepool game. Reckon if we were to win at Yeovil then a tenner / fiver in would have 17,000+ there on boxing day.
They can do no more. It's now time to forget the schisms which have divided our beautiful football club - and I'm not highlighting you as an example of what I mean, just making a general point. The match programme; Andy Ritchie being a cheap option; the club's unwillingness to communicate with its fans; the problem with the highlights and match commentary; and whatever else. It doesn't matter. We have an excellent chance to do something this season. I urge everyone to take this opportunity to help get us out of this hell-hole of a division by giving unstinting support from now until the end of the season. We have a wonderful set of noisy supporters, and it doesn't take much to get them right behind our team. Let's be positive now! Get those crowds up! Tell anyone who has lapsed that things are better down at Oakwell than they have been for a good five years. Cohesive, positive football, plenty of goals and a phenomenal team spirit which brings with it a refusal to admit defeat. Christ, we have really been through it, and were as close to slipping away as a football club can be without turning up its toes. Now we are getting back to something akin to our old self: a vibrant community asset which brings pride to all who have an emotional stake in it; one which brings warmth even in the depths of winter. We ARE going onto better things, be it this season or one in the future. Barnsley FC are back. Come on! Let's be having you! Delia.
RE: I suggested....... I know we're strapped for cash but it'd be a welcome gesture if revenue streams were second place to helping the fans for one game. Think it might inspire some goodwill from the fans too for future games at usual prices.
I couldn't give a flying f uck about the board, who pens the matchday prog or owt. They should be anonymous, merely serving the club and helping the manager and his coaches to concentrate on football. It's what happens on the green stuff that's important.
RE: I suggested....... I would say that you can't change entrance prices for a league match, people have already bought ST's. They could for the cup though, I'm sure it would increase gates.
Sorry D.H. but I disagree about a poss. price reduction for the 3rd. round. I think that the club need to generate as much additional cash as possible because, when January comes along I do not want anyone at the club being provided with the opportunity to sell on any of the players because of a lack of money in the club. It is a possibility that we might need to strengthen the team, particularly, with a striker and I just do not want anyone to turn around and say that we must sell before we can buy.
Depends how hard nosed the club have to be. I can't see the difference generated in revenue (if it is a negative) causing the sale of players. If they marketed it as a goodwill gesture to existing fans and banged the drum about those fans who've stopped away for whatever reason taking advantage of the lower prices it may just bring in extra revenue. And if it makes no difference, the ground will be fuller.
PS The club has already stated it had budgeted to go out after round 1. Hence ANY revenue from round 3 is additional to what's in the pot already.
RE: PS Perfect opp for good pr. Let's hope it's taken. whether it is will say a lot about the sort of relationship the board want to foster with the fans (not the true ones, just those who've jumped off the bandwagon, obviously)
Rubbish ....... You effectively get 10 "free" games a season with a season ticket , so reducing for 1 match shouldn't be an issue at all.
Is it not just a question of supply and demand? lower prices = more custom, basic rule of business if the prices aren't set ridiculously low, the shortfall in price per ticket will be made up by the number of people that turn up. even if we make a little loss on what we would have made at normal prices, the fact that more people will be there will be beneficial to the team, hearing the crowd get behind them an that, so there'd be a higher chance we'd be able to get to the next round, and make more money that way.
Speaking as part time scum May I doff my cap and tug my forlock at you fanatics. I looked it up in the dictionary.
