What happened to all the millions of Leeds fans that day? A fair few empty seats knocking about in that clip.
Incomparable how much better quality football is now only 30 years later - that awful Leeds side that we used to regularly beat nearly every year won the top division only 4 years later with a similar team.
Coincidentally the Damned United is showing tonight on BBC1 11:45 , I though Martin Sheene was brilliant as Cloughie .
A truly great Manager. Never used to bother with dossiers and profiling. He bought good players and expected them to cross the white line every game and do what came naturally.
And yet arguably our side from five years earlier were better than pretty much any in the last 30 years
Was Mark Ogley son of Alan? I could have asked my Dad this if he wasn't deaf & in Barnsley & me in Leeds, as Alan grew up with my dad in Mapplewell. I didn't watch much of this season, as was away with work & I'd totally forgot him.
Cheers. I saw Alan play for Stockport County against us a few times. Dad told me he was a family friend. He's a legend with County fans.
There is some quality there to be fair. Baker, Futcher, Paul Cross, Joe Joyce, Agnew, Gwyn Thomas & Jim Dobin were decent players, but not anywhere near the team we had under Norman Hunter. McDonald had come from Rangers & wasn't a bad striker really either, another one I'd kind of forgotten. Paul Cross was a real talent, but injuries ruined his career.
A lot credited the spotting and signing and day to day coaching to Taylor, with Cloughie being the main man and having excellent man management skills to get the best. Either way, what they did at Derby & Forest was amazing.
To be fair to him Cloughie always acknowledged Taylor's input. He was never the same Manager when Peter retired and then went to manage Derby. Cloughie never forgave him for enticing John Robertson away from the City Ground. The two never spoke again and Brian's wife Barbara subsequently said that after Peters death, Brian regretted never making things up with his mate.
Martin Sheen can morph himself into any character he plays. Brilliant actor. Think the Damned United is a great film.
Some compliments from Leeds fans. How refreshing. At times like this, quite rightly, rivalry is put to one side. https://the72.co.uk/160951/class-th...ited-fans-respond-to-poignant-barnsley-tweet/
I was at that game with a group of Leeds fans I knew, amongst them was Neil Reaney, son of Paul Reaney, who was in the year above me at school.
