Can i ask, for self employed people who wish to claim the £94 per week or whatever it is (during the virus)....does that mean you have to go via the universal credit route?
I belive so. You have to have zero savings before you can claim, which is a bit of a hitch if you have a Corporation Tax bill due end of September.
Thanks....last time i checked it was 2 interviews to qualify and in total around 6 weeks to be paid out.....with no recourse for back pay (the last 6 weeks). So although the messages and the help sound good.....theres red tape and a long wait for monies.
yes. at present if you are self employed you have to satisfy universal credit rules and go through the standard process. if your partner works...forget it... if you have any savings..forget it... the self employed have been hung out to dry, there may be more news in today's brief if reports are to be believed, .
Also if the government have had a word with the lenders so we may freeze mortgage repayments, what about the utility companies? Btw would the freeze also apply to bank loans?
I'm a self employed electrician and I've got my mortgage frozen for 3 months with santander very easy to sort, I'm still waiting for the natwest to call me back to freeze loans, very sympathetic to be fair but nearly 2 hours on hold.. As for benefits not sure yet, its going to be a very nervous few months as no work what so ever
https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle...nt-uk-hmrc-how-claim-universal-credit-2507111 Found this as my wife is a self employed mobile hairdresser who took the decision to stop work this weekend. I've been trying to work it out and it most of it says if you are unable to work because you are sick, but she isn't sick she is trying to do what the government wants everyone to do and stay indoors. Plus how long can you claim it for, 14 days isolation, 3 weeks shut down or however long it takes? Some articles say this new ESA is available if you have savings below £16k and it doesn't matter what your partner earns, which seems to contradict everything else about universal credit. Also found this https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/b...efore-you-apply-for-esa/eligiblility-for-esa/ You can also claim ESA if: you’re not ill but you’re following government guidance to stay at home or ‘self-isolate’ and you can’t work from home
Cheers aa will look tomorrow but just seen Martin Lewis. Money saving expert guy said there will be some government help by the end of the week
John The zero savings isn’t true There’s a lower savings limit (6k off the top of my head) and you don’t get ‘nothing’ unless your savings are over £16k It’s been a while since I was closely involved, but those numbers won’t be a million miles out.
