A dealer here in Harrogate has been looking at them all week but then decided he would take them for a pathetically low figure. I said no thanks. I expect I could sell them on ebay but I can't be bothered with all that nausea. If anyone is interested in making me a SENSIBLE offer, or knows someone who might buy them, could you let me know please? My LPs went a few years ago to a dealer in Henley on Thames and I know he ripped me off, but I just wanted one less heavy box of stuff to lug around. I want my singles to have a new home(s) but I am not giving them away PS The list is on a spreadsheet - artist, A side title, B side title. Happy to email to anyone interested.
Give Discogs a go. I've bought & sold loads of stuff on there. Fair prices paid and a good community. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks for that tip - I will have a look at it. Prefer to sell locally but dealers want everything for nothing of course. I saw a load in a charity shop the other day and they were asking £2 EACH! Thought that was a bit steep, but there is a demand for vinyl these days so they probably thought they could sell them at that price.
Father Benny Cake might be interested. I'll send him the thread. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
They are all 60s to 80s vintage. The kind of stuff that made the charts basically so a wide mixture of styles
If it's mostly stuff that made the charts, then chances are it isn't worth much, being brutally honest. Records had to sell many, many thousands to get anywhere near the charts back then, meaning the s/h market is flooded with them. If there are any mispressings, label errors or misprints, then you might have the odd nugget in there, but I wouldn't build your hopes up. The resurgence in vinyl has, unfortunately, led to many dealers and s/h shops sticking silly prices on anything that looks 'old'. Charity shops are the worst for this - tatty old copies of Rumours start at about a tenner! Every fcuker on the planet had a copy!! Not trying to be a harbinger of doom or 'owt, but I worked in record shops for 10 years or so and have traded privately since and some of the prices folk expect for stuff is frankly mental. I'm happy to go through your list for you and flag up anything worthwhile, if you like. Those you should sell privately, then move the rest on as a job lot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes, I know what you mean. I suppose it's like anything with a sentimental value - the item is worth more to the seller than the buyer. I'd be happy to sell as a job lot, or individually. Happy to take sensible offers but the dealer I saw yesterday was trying it on I think. I don't blame him, but I'd rather give them to charity than to a shop who will make a big profit. As you say, there might be some nuggets in there. I did buy a few obscure records in my teens, so it's not all chart stuff. An example would be "It's Good News Week" by Hedgehoppers Anonymous. Bit of a CND rallying cry if I remember - "It's good news week, someone's dropped a bomb somewhere, contaminating atmosphere and blackening the sky". On the minus side, it was the time of psychedelia and I, ahem, "decorated" some of the middle bits of my records. I thought it was a great idea to hold a fine paint brush over the record while spinning on the turntable. Multi-coloured circles. Groovy man! Not many of them got that treatment fortunately. I had a load of Beatles ones but they went with my LP collection. The Magical Mystery Tour EP was in mint condition. PM me your email address if you like and I will send you the list.
Good News week by Hedgehoppers Anonymous is awesome! I was born in 81 but I know every word. My dad had a mix cassette he made called 60s Surprise and it was played to death on family car journeys. In fact any family reunion is soundtracked by the Spotify play list I've since made of it.
Other "classics" from that tape... Melting Pot - Blue Mink (made famous by Alan Partridge ) Kites - Simon Dundee Matthew and Son - Cat Stevens Ha Ha Said The Clown - Manfred Mann Jimmy Mac - Martha and The Vandellas Baby Now That I've Found You - The Foundations A World Without Love - Peter and Gordon And the greatest song of all time... Softly Whispering I Love You - The Congregation
Although, 'What Do You Wanna Make Those Eyes At Me For' by Emile Ford seems to be a rallying cry for rape...
Yes, all good ones there and some are in my singles collection. Kites was Simon Dupree by the way - was that a predictive text error? Fantastic song and a really evocative sound of that era. Hedgehoppers Anonymous sparked my interest because I think all, or at least some, of the members were in the RAF at the time (and I joined in 1970 - five years after the record came out).
You could go through the back catalogues of music from that period and find plenty of dodgy titles and lyrics. One of my favourites, and I bought it, was Young Girl by the Union Gap. Pop singer lamenting his school girl lover. Sheeshhh... It's a different way of thinking though - who at the time thought anything of it?
This one was particularly bad though... What do you wanna make those eyes at me for If they don't mean what they say? They make me glad, they make me sad, They make me wanna a lot of things I never had. You're fooling around with me now Well you lead me on, then you run away. Hey that's all right I'll get you alone tonight And maybe you'll find your messing with dynamite. So what do you wanna make those eyes at me for If they don't mean what they say?
