I think that you look quite a good bet for a top six finish, provided that the new players gel quickly enough. BUT...... aren't you just slightly worried as to what might happen if you don't go up? If I were in your shoes I'd be absolutely sh1tting it about not having a club to suppport in three years time if things don't work out as planned.
Dont' know what PR's role was at Barnsley but down here he's on board to secure the new stadium development, particularly the retail element. Nothing else. Since he has taken that over it appears to have taken significant strides forward. Had viewed his appointment with extreme trepidation myself but, give credit where it's due, he appears to be doing very well. Perhaps with him and Sam Hammam together they cancel each other out. We can only hope.
he "appeared" to be doing very well for us, until it came to light that he had exceeded the planned budget by a million quid in six months.....
Sam USED to control our budgets. With the stadium development under close scrutiny, we have to stick rigidly within that budget. I know it doesn't appear like that to you but, according to Deloitte & Touche - the Council's accountants, we are (dunno) It would appear that we are signing everyone under the sun but I think it's more apparent to you because we've signed one of yours (McPhail) and an ex-loanee of yours (Chopra - who's scored 5 in 5 pre-season). We used only 17 players last season and got rid of 10 or 12 - with a couple more to follow. We had to replace them and, as we ran out of steam at the end of the season (3 points out of last 18), Dave Jones wanted a larger squad. He's aiming at 19 or 20 apparently. We'll see. Oh, and we've signed Kevin Campbell as a back up striker today apparently!
RE: Got to admit I liked that one, lol (clap) I'll be up there on Saturday, don't worry about that. Whether or not i'll be able to speak coherently by ko is another matter (raiseaglass)
just can't see how you can sustain those players wages on your attendances. its pretty worrying for you given Ridsdales track record.
RE: just can't see how you can sustain Very risky, but with the people they have at the helm it is no surprise to me. The players brought in wont be on cheap wages. Fair enough, if you have debt and it is covered by the building of the new stadium...... BUT what happens it is turns into another Wembley, seeing delays in delivery, etc... Where does that leave the re-payments then?
RE: just can't see how you can sustain I hear what you're saying, particularly with the attendance aspect. Our attendances last year were pathetic, averaging 12000. Woeful. Season before it was around 15000 but again, poor. Our break-even figure last year was 13000 so we were short of that. Still can't believe that. However, that was compensated for when we had a £600k payday from our cup game at Arsenal. Oh, and we got between £3 and £4m for Cameron Jerome. Don't get me wrong, you won't draw Arsenal or the like every year and this (cup runs etc) has not been built into our business plan. Our squad was small last season and we suffered for it. Believe it or not, it's not that big this year as we've got rid of loads. What we do have this year though is competition in most places. Ninian Park is not the most appealing of grounds to visit, particularly for a family and this is obviously being addressed with the new stadium. The fan base is there, believe me, and it is this that Sam is tapping into. For instance, when you came to the Millenium Stadium, you brought a very commendable 25k or thereabouts. When we were there 3 years previously, we sold 38k in 2 days and had applications for 4 times more. I know its in our city etc... The potential is even greater than that with no rival clubs within 40 miles and even then they are only little old swansea and bristol city. Our nearest Premiership rivals are 120 miles away! Trouble is, apathy is King down here. Many still do not forgive the club for selling John Toshack to Liverpool in 1971! When, at the end of the previous season we had sold our best players - Danny Gabbidon, Graham Kavannah, Jobi McAnuff, James Collins, Peter Thorne etc. and a couple of months previously, Robert Earnshaw, season tickets and belief in the club went through the floor. But as the saying goes "build it and they will come". Not burying my head in the sand or being taken in by Sam H, just saying it as I believe it is.
RE: just can't see how you can sustain What a pleasant change to have an away fan who comes on the board, speaks well and doesn't just resort to trying to wind people up with petty insults. We may have to resort to turning this back to a footie BB if we get more like this fella!
This is wrong... ... everything that's thrown at you and you reply with a structured arguement although I don't agree with some of the financial side. Well enough of reasoned debate I'm sorry but I don't think you are a real CCFC fan, so it's time for the purile rubbish !!!!!
We're a much bigger club than you.
You're imbred sheep ********.
You're stadium is toss
Swansea are a far bigger club than you
So ner !!!!
BFC (much bigger club) Dave
Now let's see if you rise to that !!!

RE: This is wrong... We're a much bigger club than you. - I'm not that big so I'm sure this is correct. Clubs tend to be larger. You're imbred sheep ********. - I'm assuming you meant "Inbred" or do you type by simply banging your head on random keys? Anyway, I haven't got lucky in ages. You're stadium is toss - Don't want to have to nit pick your grammar again but it's just too easy, eh? You're???? Again, I'd say that was a typo and you meant to say "Your stadium is possible" Swansea are a far bigger club than you - Bugger, I've lost all control and need to change my pants. Haven't laughed as much in ages. So ner !!!! BFC (much bigger club) Dave Good effort Dai, B+. See you saturday?
RE: This is wrong... why are you bothered about the grammer? its obvious what it says but you cant argue against it so you pick on spellings to create content pretending its the argument, when its not "See you saturday?" youve observed the fixture list well
RE: This is wrong... Brilliant
Yes mate, will be having a pint in the Outpost first. Normally quiet and away fan friendly. Unfortunately I feel that the trouble that was caused last time the clubs met will prevent the civilised ones amongst us having a pint and a chat.
Also I'd like to suggest that all the mistakes were typos or deliberate...ahem ....they weren't !!!
Trouble is you still didn't resort to the level of name calling we get from other fans (Donnie particularly) so I'll pack it in !!!!!
Dave
