As I believe he was the last manager to progress the club, rather than simply consolidate.

I suppose Davey by keeping us up the first season in the Championship.

Robins also for keeping us up and giving us two solid finishes to the season.

Robins, some didn't like his football but unlike Keith managed to recover from the usual new year slump and finish the season strongly

Re: Serious question, who in you opinion was the last manager you consider did a good

Depends on what you consider good. Despite our current league position and results this year, some of the football we have played has been the best since Wilson. I also think that Hill has generally brought decent players in and all for next to nothing. I think he's the best person (who we could possibly afford) to keep us up without being given a bucketload of cash to spend in January.

Robins also did well in keeping us up, but I struggle to think of many games where I came away feeling that we were witnessing anything special.

Davey did well in keeping us up and took us to the FA Cup semi-final, but it allstarted to go wrong.

And Ritchie did well in getting us up, but we were heading back down and that last game at Palace was absolutely dreadful.

So I don't think you can say that any of the last four managers did a bad job. In fact, I think that only Spackman and Hodges in my years supporting the club did a bad job, whereas Parkin was just out of his depth. However, the last one that I look back on to the point that I would have had him back at the club...scratch that, the only manager who, after leaving us, I would have wanted back was Wilson.

Mark Robins - we had progressed from being a side constantly battling relegation to a team with 2 comfortable finishes without any real worries over being in the bottom 3.

No, I think the rot started when he ripped the side apart and brought in players of lesser talent!

Robins, Bassett, Wilson... Davey was just starting to grown on me when he got the chop. Will go down as a legend for FA Cup run. Ritchie who knows... Would he have turned things around? Similar to current team lower league players hardworking creative but can't chiffin score...

Re: Serious question, who in you opinion was the last manager you consider did a good

Even though his record in the league wasn't exactly great, I enjoyed Simon Davey's reign simply for the fact that he wasn't afraid to take a chance on unknown foreigners and to be fair his scouting network was pretty good. Yes there was some absolute rubbish, El-hamour and Mossto (maybe they'd actually get in the current team), but there were also some really exciting players who could turn the games around ie Ferenczi, Raiji and Bogdanovic (sorry can't be bothered to look the proper spellings of the names up). I even thought that Dominic Werling guy was pretty decent.

I don't think we ever looked relegation fodder during Davey's time at the club although the cup run in 2008 was a big distraction to the players had a big impact on league form. I didn't particularly like Davey's character and was never sure he really knew what he was on with but they were pretty enjoyable times.

Mark Robins' side seemed to have a knack of grinding out wins, can't remember any long periods without a win, nothing really sticks out to be honest. We were a pretty average side and again never looked in serious danger of going down despite spending most of the time at the wrong end of the table. I was pretty disappointed when he left but fairly optimistic when Keith Hill came in given his track record was actually better than Robins.
