I think we're all at least agreed we need to make some signings in the transfer window. We're mostly agreed that we need additions in all areas ideally: - Defence - Midfield - Attack So, we're looking at a minimum of 4 to 5 players I reckon, but obviously that depends if any of the current squad leave so it's an inexact science. My point is though, whatever the number its significant. Dragon, Ponty, rest of the 'set' plus countless others all appear to be disappointed at activity so far suggesting we need "proven championship" quality.
And this is my serious question, how do you expect us to fund "proven Championship" players in all these positions? I would have thought to meet the quality being demanded by most on here we are talking minimum £350k+ per player? Not forgetting the larger salaries they're almost certainly going to demand. Do you therefore think wehave approx £2M cash plus in excess of £1M recurring for salaries on top of our current outgoings?
Genuine questions as I was feeling mildly pleased at the activity so far. Obviously these players are unproven but given the size of our club that's all I would have expected. I'm obviously in a minority so feel free to set me straight.

I'm not disappointed just not over the moon. I'm hoping what we've got, plus a couple more additions, will come good.
RE: I'm not disappointed I'm not over the moon either, but I would take 4 or 5 unproven but promising lower league players over 1 big game that could get injured in his first game. Both approaches carry risks, I just think current strategy is preferable (IMHO). Of course if we could manage 4 or 5 lower leaguers and also muster 1 or 2 "quality" players that would be ideal. Still early days yet.
We can only shop in the places we can afford to im pleased with the signings. when you look at some of the ridiculous transfer fees already paid so far (Vine for £2.5million, Stead for £750,000 to name 2), then its obvious we can't compete with that. I'm confident davey's done his homework and bought accordingly. YOOOOOOU REDS!
RE: We can only shop in the places we can afford to if we can only shop in the places we can afford then we will go down. FACT. fair enough i don' think vine is worth two and a half mill. but who the hell is Dwayne Mattis? Grant McCann won't keep us in this division, and Simon Davey isn't good enough to manage a Championship Club. Sack Davey, Sack the Board. Simple.
if you were feeling mildly pleased with our current transfer activities you must be looking forward to relegation, our signings are unproven and from a lower level of football, sorry but all our signings will be cheap rubbish wilst our rivals sign players like lucketti from sheff u whilst we get mattis from bury ffs, with signings like this relegation nailed on
And then what Youve sacked the club management and team management - I assume you have realistic suggestions as to how to fill the vacancies Football clubs dont run themselves you know
RE: OK thanks I agree with you. Not over the moon, not too disappointed. How man of us have seen Mattis play? I bet not many. Ryan Kidd obviously knows him and knows what we have at the club and if he thinks he is better than what we have then fair enough! There are plenty of players who have played lower leagues and gone on to bigger and better things. ie Eastwood was at Grays before Southend. Williamson - mansfield to Rotherham. McIndoe - Yeovil - Donny etc There are certain bargains out there, may be we have unearthed one. We paid nowt for Brian Howard and found a gem, nowt for Devaney etc. Lets see if we bring in a striker who can score and may be another defender and I think we will do fine.
RE: And then what Gordon Shephard could'nt run a bath. And Simon Davey used to manage the under 10's. They are a joke. Ted Smith from darn Fox 'n Hound could do a better job. Sorry but as much as i bleed red, they are a joke.
RE: You haven't answered the question nt nt well okay if you insist i mention a name even though i risk being shot down in a big ball of flames. Sean Lewis? there. Surely someone would want to take over the club? Someone with more ambition that Shepherd. Someone who is not all mouth and no trousers.
Realistic suggestions A pub landlord - I cant tell you how glad I am its not down to you then Who's your realistic manager - coach of the Fox and Hounds Sunday league side? still at least they'd be cheap
Someone who is not all mouth and no trousers. Sean Lewis !!!! absolute quality! - there was me thinking you were serious - best comedy on here for days
RE: Someone who is not all mouth and no trousers. there you go, shot down. you wanted a name. Ted Smith wasn't good enough. anyway, i'm sick to death of Barnsley Football Club.
I agree with Tykeman, we all would like to see half million pound players from other championship clubs in, and i have said from the begining of the season that we lacked quality all round. But and it's a small but, we really do now want two QUALITY players in. We need these players in now, just to add a bit of experience, to a young squad and to show the younger players and those that have just come to the club. We all know we need a centre back and a centre forward. So i hope Davey is keeping the best transfers for last, no more fringe players, lets push the boat out now and bring in experience. If we do that then we have a chance, if not we will be relegated.
Best Transfers for last All the best transfers will have gone by the end. I do agree that we do need an experienced centre half and an experienced centre forward. A few Sheff U fans i know said that Shipperley was player of season in their promotion campaign, why not him? He can win headers and knows where the net is, along with experience. I know it was a long shot but i would have liked to have seen Unsworth, although you can't blame him for opting for wigan. Any Centre Half suggestions? Matt Carbon? (lol)
