Derby reject four offers for captain Jason Shackell Derby County say they have rejected four offers from three different clubs for captain Jason Shackell. The 28-year-old centre-back, who joined from Barnsley last June, played every minute of all 49 games last season. Chief executive Tom Glick told BBC Radio Derby that although every player had a price, they wanted him to stay. "He's our player and we expect him to continue to be. We've turned down four bids from three clubs and there have been other clubs interested," he said. "It's no surprise, he was a star player for us. We have rejected four bids and have happily done so because he is a key player." Glick, who leaves to take up a role with Premier League champions Manchester City in August, had previously said the Rams are under no financial pressure to sell players.
Surely there is no doubt. Could be in for a decent wedge though if the price keeps going up. He will leave. What are the bids?
I think it was put on here that Matt Murray confirmed it on Twitter. No idea what the percentage is though. People are getting excited that we've definately got a sell on clause, but for all we know it might only be five or ten percent. Hopefully it's 20% and Derby hold out for 2 million so we get 400k.
There are people on here (evidence in what they have posted) that do not rate Shackell and thought we got a decent price for him when he was sold. Obviously with reports coming through that at least 3 clubs are now after him; the opinions of these people has been shown to be the same old usual cr@p. They know who they are. At the time I said we are selling him for peanuts - we got a player with an injured foot on loan in return. Shackell saved Barnsley from being relegated the season before last. We still haven't replaced the massive hole that was created after he left the club.
