... for refusing to have the poppy on their shirts for today.... Call me a sceptic but I bet some kinda commercial negative was factored into that conclusion. Hang your heads in shame.
Perhaps its because the majority of players are not British Although I noticed Man City were wearing them yesterday. Thought re Tevez who is Argentinian where conflict with his Homeland caused a lot of lives. The same thoughts could also effect Ballack today. I do however understand the thought is for all lives lost in conflict, regardless of Nationality but I stand to be corrected.
Personally i think that fecking stinks Coming from 2 clubs that have a minutes silence every year for Hillsbrough & Munich
There is the argument though as to why should you force people to wear a poppy. Doesn't it detract somewhat if there is an edict that everyone should wear them? Does it trivialise it when you see every single person on the BBC wearing them? I buy one every year and wear it, they sell them at work but I wouldn't like my company to be saying to me that I had to wear one. The sacrifice was made so that people had freedom of choice as to whether to wear an emblem, don't forget that the Nazi's forced people to wear emblems.
I wonder if each club that wears 'em. . . . . . . makes a sizable donation the RBL? Isn't that the point?
RE: I wonder if each club that wears 'em. . . The shirts are autographed and auctioned, with proceeds to the Royal British Legion and Help For Heroes.
Must be a fear of upsetting foreign players. Are they not willing to follow our respects and tradition?. Who cares, so long as we care. I for one respect what those brave soldiers did for this once proud nation. LET US NEVER FORGET!
good point eaststander. If we don't wear one, does that mean we are being dis-respectful? and does it mean teams were all dis-respectful last season and the season before that? Have all teams been dis-respectful the last 60 years by not wearing one? Perhaps we should get vivian westwood to design one on the shirt? Perhaps there should be one on all council workers' overalls and police uniforms and nurses uniforms etc etc etc etc...? Aren't we in danger of turning this into a circus? - just buy a normal poppy, remember the dead. lets keep it simple.
