Cardiff City chief sacked

Jul 26 2006

'I feel embarrassed because this isn't how I wanted to leave the football club I've given 10 years of my life to,' he said.

'Last Thursday, I thought a consultancy agreement had been made, and yesterday I was told that was no longer the way the club wanted to go.

'As far as I'm concerned, during my time here people have walked away from things and I've taken on the responsibility for keeping things going.

'I believe I've done some great work and I'm proud of that, so that makes this even more disappointing.'

And he also rubbished City supremo Sam Hammam's statements about Cardiff City's 'family'.

'I still love the club, but I don't think there is any 'family' there any more,' he said.

'In my opinion, it's being driven not by family, but by self-interest.'

Now Mr Temme is planning his next move.

'I've got to take stock and consider the best way forward,' he said.

'Although it's still early days, I am considering legal action.'

Peter Ridsdale told the Echo: 'Cardiff City can confirm David Temme has left the club's employment.

'While we had hoped to conclude ongoing consultancy arrangements, that ultimately was not possible.

'For legal reasons, we wish to make no further comment.'

The announcement creates another problem for the £100m, 30,000-seater stadium development, which is planned on the site of Cardiff Athletics Stadium.

Although Asda and Costco have signed up to be part of the adjoining retail park, the project has been dogged by snags.

The latest of these emerged last week when it was revealed the original agreement to complete a new athletics stadium before demolishing the existing complex would mean City's new home could not be completed before June 2009.

That would mean a £10m hike in costs and a year's delay. But it is not known whether this has contributed to Mr Temme's departure.
