Is no more. Organisers have announced on FB that that year’s event was the last. Absolutely gutted as for me was it the best day out in Tarn.
Sad shame that. Always enjoyed watching it, especially as it's always on the nearest saturday to my birthday. The positive being it's been announced early enough that there is still plenty of time to sort an alternative for next June on the usual date. The town centre bars are all after the same business, but surely it's in their interests (when you look at how packed out their venues get with it) for the managements of different places to all sit down together and work out a plan to have something similar next year under a different name. As I have said a couple of times it would be good if when Chien Lee takes over he finds a use for Oakwell on more of the 300 plus days a year it's empty, and this would be an idea. Granted in June our pitch is probably being relaid, but wouldn't it be possible for Oakwell to put it on? Could cover the pitch to protect it and put some kind of stage in front of the north stand. Charge folks a small fee like a tenner to get in (midday to 10 pm quid per hour of music you listen to for example). Rent out stalls to people to sell t shirts etc of the bands performing. Car park would do a great trade, as would the corporate boxes. We've an infrastructure as a football club to make sure this event that's such a positive for the town can continue in some way.
I understood that not all bars/pubs in the town centre that jumped on the bandwagon and profited from Live in Barnsley were actually part of it nor contributed to the associated costs.
you start by saying the town centre bars should take it on, agreed it would be in their own interests, then switch to saying why don't the powers that be stage it at Oakwell three quarters of a mile away very little benefit to town centre and charge a tenner thought it was normally free.
If it can stay in the town centre then great. But as said further up places that didn't contribute towards it benefited from it, so I aren't sure how they would get around that. But if it takes Oakwell to step in to keep it going then it would be a massive positive for the town. It would be great publicity and talented local bands would benefit from being able to perform at the local football stadium. If it could stay free that would be great also. Suppose it would depend on how many would volunteer all day long for free to keep costs down. Around the academy pitches you could rent to a fair to put up rides for kids. Car park would be packed behind the Ponte and we could get a fee from a local taxi firm to sort them a taxi rank on our land to get people home quicker when they choose to leave. Corporate boxes would be popular. Around the back of the east stand rent out stalls to people that wish to sell anything from food, to band t shirts or whatever else. People would come from surrounding areas and it would be a huge positive for the area. It would have a open day feel about it. I don't see a negative.
don't think the people who live round Oakwell would be too happy with gangs of drinkers too and froing from town all day and night. Its not like match days when its what, 5 hours tops.
I would be ok with it, when the fair comes to Oakwell it's not too bad and that's for about 3/4 days.
Club should bang up a temporary stage in the west stand area that nobody can sit in at the moment. Get a band on at half time for a couple of songs..
They didn't but I know that one of the main organisers of previous years couldn't commit to helping out last time. It's a massive undertaking for Dave and the team and they did the whole thing voluntarily. I also know that last year they got a bit of stick for a number of pubs running out of beer. Quite how that was their fault I'll never know. I imagine that they've decide that enough is is enough. It's a crying shame as they've done a magnificent job. Pretty sure Dave posts on here from time to time. Thanks for everything mate. 5 brilliant years and my beautiful Taylor guitar now has a scar that will always remind me of LiB 2017
