Sheff Utd Striker kills Father of 5. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ed-father-changing-songs-iPod-driving-M1.html
The FA will get him off. "We knew there was nothing in it and should just move on" said Sam Ellis through a haze of single-malt.
Thats awful news for all concerned My initial reaction was to have a cheap shot comparing to the Morgan Hume incident but on reflection it does sound like a tragic accident. I suspect most of us at some point in our driving career have had a near miss or accident which could have been much worse when distracted by changing radio, looking for a sweet, trying to control kids in the back etc. There doesnt seem to be any suggestion of showing off speeding drink or drugs involved. For the family who have lost their Dad Husband there I have nothing but sympathy I fortunately cant know what they are going through. But even for Jordan Robertson it must be hell - I wouldnt want to deal with knowing I had killed someone in an accident. Wouldnt wish that on anyone even someone at Sheff U
I thought there was something more to this one.......... When interviewed after the game on Sunday Blackwell was asked how Robertson was. He said he had not been in contact with the player but had heard he was ok. At the time I thought there must be more to it........ considering one of his promising young players was lying in hospital bed, he didn't appear to be very concerned or sympathetic towards him. Obviously knew more than he let on. Very sad news! thoughts must go to his family.
What the hell is a lad that has just turned 20 who has spent his career on loan at lower league teams doing in a Mercedes CLC 180? If he wasn't so ridiculously overpaid and was driving a car he could actually handle, like an old Ford Fiesta that any normal 20 year old would be happy to have, then maybe this accident might not have happened.
Its not like he was diving a ferrari, Its a Merc that you can get for around £18k, A 1.8 engine and 0-62mph in about 10 seconds hardly what you'd call a sports car, you can get Fiesta's that are quicker that that!!!! The point is most young drivers think they are Lewis Hamilton no matter what car they are in...... Its a mistake he is going to have to live with and in all probability it will cost him his liberty and his career. My thoughts are with the dead mans family
I'm more concerned with the size of his brain than his engine. For the police to know he was changing songs on his ipod he must have told them.
The power of the car most likely had nothing to do with it unless he was doing over 100mph, fiesta's and pretty much any cars can do motorway speeds so having extra power there makes no difference at all if you're not speeding.
Distractions in cars today .... anyone agree with me that the vehicle manufacturers have some responsibility here as well. I am convinced that the number of accidents on roads has been made worse by the number of in-car distractions installed these days. SatNav, hands-free mobile phones, on board computers - they all entice the driver to take his eye off the road for a split second and that split second can be fatal. There have been a number of occasions when I have found myself doing a reality check and thinking what life used to be like driving my first vehicle - a grey minivan. As the heater didn't work, you were kept well awake by the stream of cold air, as well as the rumble of tyres on road and the occasional glimpse of tarmac through the rusted sub-frames!!! But you did not have the distractions. I think I feel a lot of sympathy, both for Robertson and the victim's family. It could happen to anyone all too easily. Time to register in-car distractions as a killer as great as excessive speed and alcohol, I think. Anyone agree? PS I have a pal who is a long-distance lorry-driver, who tells me that the sights he sees looking down into vehicles from his cab would make you wince! He has seen drivers watching feature-length films whilst in full-speed motion along motorways.
when beckham butt and the nevs were coming though at man utd fergy wunt let them have anything above a 1.4 and at least 3 year old i think it was beckam who got a top end car and sir alex told him to get rid or he would never play for man utd again and giggsy and bruce used to take the piss out of them but still this shows the reason behind it
Quite alot of 20 year olds and younger Don't do a bad job at killing themselves and their friends in corsa's and citroen Saxo's. Just take a drive up Donny road past the crem. Loads of flowers there at this time of year from kids who were driving cars that they "could actually handle" I reckon it must have been a pretty freak accident for two vehicles of similar weight going in the same direction at similar speeds to result in a death. Motorway deaths generally involve lorries or two vehicles of disproptionate size, or stationary traffic being hit by high speed traffic. Whilst I have every sympathy with the family of the dead chap, I hope the highway robbery dept. don't ruin the young lads life further!
