Does anyone know if you can go into public gallery if you are with someone who is giving evidence? And the rules surrounding public gallery i.e. particular dress code etc?

Any help would be good. Thank you.

    Oh brilliant. cheers mate.
Its a last minute decision. A friends decided he don't want to go on his own, and we've no idea of arrangments etc or anything. I've been on a school trip into a public gallery there before, but wasn't sure if its different for the public. Don't want to turn up in jeans if you've got to wear 'smart'

    Answer

You can only go into the gallery if it is an adult criminal case. All youth or family cases allow only those who are involved into the court. You cannot have your mobile on, eat or drink. You cannot keep going in or out. Your dress code is smart. Ex. shirt and jeans. You can't have a t-shirt saying "Up yours" on it.

There is no problem for you to attend the court hearing if the above applies!

well people involved are over 18, so i guess that's classed as adult.
So jeans and a shirt are ok then? As long as the shirt is plain and simple? Or would black trousers be best as a precaution?
Sorry for all the questions but I've really no idea haha

You're ok with jeans as long as they are "tidy"

    Over 18 = Adult.

I can understand your mate wanting somebody with him. It's a scarey business having to be a witness. Dosn't really matter which side you're on.

    Wrong

It all depends on the JP. Mi owd man wouldn't accept it. But then again he's a strict git :) Respectable clothing is the norm.
