Unusual to see Thurnscoe reported as being in Barnsley. Although it is under Barnsley MBC, it tends to be referred to as near Rotherham due to its postcode, similar with nearby Goldthorpe and Bolton-on-Dearne. The guy’s a first class idiot

David Staniforth, defending, said his client was "not someone who is at all racist" and said his friends and colleagues agreed what happened was "completely out of character".

    …We believe you Dave.

It's astonishing how many of the people who land up in court for such offences, happen to be caught doing it for the first time and so out of character. It was the same with the Manvers riots, they all seem to have turned up there as if by accident.

You'd think the law of averages would say that there must be some people who are the other way round, who are massive racists most of the time but just happen to turn into quiet and mild-mannered spectators in a football ground. Whose friends and colleagues say is completely unashamed to be a racist," agrees that what happened in the ground was "par for the course," but was nothing to do with them because they were "down in the concourse eating haribos."
