From the Star: SHEFFIELD Wednesday could be tempted to sell Chris O’Grady this summer. Barnsley made an inquiry and other clubs may follow in showing interest in the striker. It is understood that the Reds sounded out the Owls about him but no bid was made. Keith Hill, who was O’Grady’s boss at Rochdale, will not be alone in noting that the £350,000 centre forward figured little under Dave Jones last season in the League One promotion push. It is also well known that Jones is trying to strengthen the side for Championship football. So it may be perceived as being unlikely that O’Grady will feature prominently in his plans next season. It is also likely that Wednesday could be persuaded to sell him if they can recoup the amount that was spent on him last summer. O’Grady has two years left on his contract. He made only one start after Jones arrived and he was displaced by loan signing Nile Ranger, the Newcastle striker who is one of many targets for the Wednesday manager this summer. O’Grady was a sub seven times in the promotion run-in but was not even on the bench for four games. His personal fortunes suffered after he scored the Hillsborough derby winner against United, and Gary Megson, the manager who signed him, was axed. Jones is already in the market for at least one striker, with Clinton Morrison having been released and Ranger’s loan having ended.
'Mobile target man' Everybody I know who supports Wednesday loved him. Just the laiker for Craig Davies to play off. As long as he's not wide right. Or we don't sell him in August.
My only worry is that he was replaced by Nile Ranger...... I really hope the Pigs struggle next season.
They wont, they will be back in the premier League in the next 2 seasons in my opinion. Not a wind up either.
Times have changed since the early 90's and they seem to think their owners a billionaire...if rich lists are to be believed his personal wealth is £12 million more than Cryne. Hopefully they won't be troubling the play offs.
He had a poor season for a successful third division club, yet a struggling championship club like ourselves might want him? No thanks.
Reading between the lines I think Dagnall will need to score a bag full in pre season or he'll be on his way out. Seems Hill has realised some can make the step up and some cannot.
Just checked the Rochdale forum, and they reckon O'Grady and Hillcroft don't get on. Apparently, he got the Vaz Te treatment and didn't take it well. And, they reckon he's on £9,000 a week at Wendy, so that would - if true - rule him out.
Thought that myself when I read their forum. I wouldn't want him here anyway. If Keith keeps recruiting ex-Dale players, he's digging his own grave IMO. And O'Grady hardly represents the 'experienced' players we need at this level.
