I hope they do as well. But we have more than our share, glass houses and all that.

Absolutely. It's awful but yes I've seen and heard plenty amongst Reds 'fans' before, to be fair much of it in the past when I used to go to a lot of away games, rather than at Oakwell. We as a club have had a lot of crowd issues in recent years.

Wendy have several black players in their squad. I wonder how they feel tonight.

I can always remember in the 90’s, Birmingham forward Kevin Francis getting awful abuse at oakwell when we had Clint Marcelle in our team. Even as a kid I thought it was a bit strange.

I remember getting free tickets from school to watch Barnsley vs Southend in what must have been about 1990. Brett Angell was up front for them anyway.
And we were all sat in the West Stand upper tier and given a lecture about not monkey chanting. I had no idea at the time what monkey chanting was, or why we would do it, but it seems to me that it must have already been a problem in Oakwell for them to tell kids not to do it.

I once read an Arsenal programne in which they interviewed Ian Wright, and he named Oakwell as the most racist ground he'd been to!
Agana and Deane received some horrible treatment at the FA Cup replay when they knocked us out!

Yeah, it was a huge problem in the late 80's and early 90's when I was a kid. Seemed to die out very quickly towards the end of the decade thankfully, although I do remember a couple of low-level incidents or casual comments. In particular one about Dave Regis eating "magic bananas" after he scored his one and only goal for us.

So a bit of goading from an opposition player warrants personal racial abuse? And they class Barnsley people as thick?!

Doubt it. Winston was at Barnsley 80-86 . Deane and Agana at blunts after 88. But I remember the incident well. Hard to believe 2024 and still Racist s41t about in football. And society in general.

Did we not get fined recently for this type of thing. The ira song. Etc.I'd love to know how many other clubs have suffered the same fate through nobheads.

If they caught the accused on camera. Jobs on the line if so. If working.

The referendum campaign (& subsequent PMs) have enabled the racists to crawl out from underneath their stones

And the worrying thing is not only how many people still sing the IRA song week after week but how many more defend their right to do so and criticise the club for condemning it.

Sorry it’s not a case of ‘Glasshouses’ Racism and associated chants/gestures should be called out irrespective of anything. Yes we have had more than our fair share of this in the PAST, but we have come a very long way in more recent times. Eradicated it, no of course not, but it is a million miles from where it was in the 70s 80s and 90s for eg.where I sit I never hear or see anything remotely racist except that stupid IRA/ hate Leeds scum chant.

Was widespread in the 70s and 80s sometimes seemed like the whole ground was doing it such was the volume (I know it wouldn't have been everybody) used to happen even when we had players like Winston Campbell and Tony Cunningham in a red shirt. Yet I also remember the entire away following going bat **** mental at Bramall Lane once when the Blunts started chucking Bananas at Winston which just shows how thick we football supporters sometimes are.
