Spoiling you again! Full game here including extra time and pens. This was one of the first games on Sky.
Remember as if it was yesterday, the old Oakwell Social Club, Quite full & what a match. Didn't Bare to watch the shoot out, we all went ballistic when we won. A skip, staggr & a jump all the way home.
Ha, A good friend of mine said he was abused as a child(Barnsley lad) it was his first match also but all his family were Dee Dars & they made him watch Sheff Wednesday hense the abuse.
Now that is a good noodle scratcher, can't remember my first away game but a bit of reaserch may provide the answer.
My first was a 0-0 draw at Rotherham United, 31st August 1968. Excuse me whilst I look for my zimmer frame, pipe & slippers!
Mine was a 2-1 defeat at Blackburn on 10th October 1981. Banks penalty, Aylott out injured and I think his replacement Glyn Riley was carried off. Dreary day, but I can remember it like it was yesterday. Was a staple fixture for a decade, and it's strange in some ways, but I can remember many of that Blackburn team too - Gennoe, Garner, Fazakerley, Brotherton, Keeley, Rathbone etc. I reckon we were knackered after beating then 1st Division Swansea in the league Cup a few days earlier. Recover for the week after though, I'm sure it was when we beat Newcastle 1-0 at home.
Leicester away in the cup. 1990 I think. Total mudbath, won 2-1 after going 1-0 down. Lowndes and Currie. Huge away following, electric atmosphere. Back when the FA Cup really meant something.
I still have this match on VHS too. I can still remember hearing Dean "Dino" Connelly shouting "YES" when he toe-ends the ball into the net.
