I'd rather get the scratch repaired. Plus it's a diesel!

Too right I am. It wouldn't have bothered me if it was my old car, but this one's on an 08 plate!

You took an 08 plate through a car wash? TUT TUT!! - I wouldn't take a 10yr old car through one.

    Hand wash only.

It's not a problem using carwashes normally with any car, never ever had a problem with them until now. I know Mini recommend not using them because the stripes will peel off, but that's normal for decals, pretty obvious too.

No, you're the one who follows Peter Ridsdale round the country bowing down to his every word. A scratch can be fixed, but you'll be a lovely person for the rest of your days, which are hopefully limited.

Proving to the owners that the scratch was done in the carwash might be rather difficult. Car-washes are notorious for damaging cars, do the sensible thing next time and hand-wash it.

    Not to mention

They all tend to have a disclaimer up saying that it's at your risk and they accept no responsibility.

Why take it through an automated car wash anyway when you can get a much better job done at a hand car wash for about a fiver.

Something simular happened to me last summer.

It was a rough wash and wiped off my Seat badge on a 2 year old Leon. I was gutted and didn't notice it until I got home, only on the back of the car. Felt at the time it was a bit strong but just didn't think.
