Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has revealed that the Toon will splash their transfer cash on attacking players this summer. United have been heavily linked with a move for the Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt, who will not decide his future until after this summer's World Cup, as they look for a world-class hitman to replace the retired Alan Shearer. Shepherd told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle: "After discussing things with the manager we know what we want and need. We are on the lookout for attacking players for next season." Another potential forward recruit is Ruud van Nistelrooy, if the Dutch international is made available by Manchester United.
