can I just say, to all of you that are defending Shep, you are talking complete bol*ox. Regardless of what is said to Shep, in whatever tone, it is his responsibility to respond in a professional, business like manner, not to trade insult for insult. Anybody who has worked with 'customers' of any kind knows that it's not acceptable to fight fire with fire, so if a customer calls you a 'wan*er', it's not acceptable to say 'so are you', you just say, 'thanks for your opinion, but why do you think that and what can I do to help'. Now if it happens in the pub or the street, that's different, but not when you are the chairman of a struggling business. The idea is to attract more customers, not drive them away, particularly the most loyal ones you have got!!
But he works for nowt, so can do what he likes.. what he fails to realise is that people like us are the lifeblood of the club. Yes we may be difficult, mardy, obnoxious and sometimes nasty, but it's largely because we care so much about the club. When the Enterprise PLC's and Perry's of this world get fed up of football, we will still be there, supporting "our" team. I dare say that PR would have handled the matter in a far more positive light. Perhaps we could learn something from him in a positive way as well as in a negative way.
Ooh! Sedition from site admin. Heh heh.
It would never have happened under the Corke administration I can tell you.

Perhaps, in some cases, but I'm sure you get my point, which is rise above it and deal with it in a professional manner
My view I am surprised by Shep'stone inhis reply. He's quite entitled to feel like that of course, he does put a lot of work in after all. But like you say, he should consider the wider impact of airing his personal frustrations.
Shep's naive tosuggest that fans can'thave an opinion too, and even more naive to think that this response will stay betweentheposterand him.
The fact that the replynow beenposted this on here will show Gordon up in a light which will do him no favours at all.
In fact, I think I'll forget I read it altogether.

RE: My view Totally agree if I replied to some of my clients in the manner either I think they deserve or would like they would no longer be clients.I would therefore expect the chairman of a football club to either be professional enough to avoid some of the demeaning wording (personally I find the statement referring to people outside the game as an insult to most fans and the people like you bit beyond belief)or not reply at all something that most chairmen would not have not done and would probably have got away with as it would probably have been what most fans wopuld have expected anyway.
no ,cos he,d have been on his "Special Sites", light blue touch paper and retire to a safe distance hehehe
