... carrying what looked like trainers or shoes in a box, being pursued hell for leather by 2 security guards. Running so fast that anybody in his way would have been flattened. Looked early 20s, well dressed, quite athletically fit and had the edge over his pursuers who looked to be running out of steam as they all disappeared round the corner.

Now, if this theiving little get were in Saudi Arabia or Singapore for example, he wouldn't have done that - cos he knows the ride would not be worth the fall. But of course he isn't in Saudi Arabia or Singapore.

If - on the other hand, he needed to consider that the consequences of getting caughtwould bethe indignity of six very painful lashes across his arse, he might just reconsider his actions beforestealing from others.

Shoplifting and similar stuff would virtually disappear overnight - and for those who didn't get the message, the advantagewould bethat the punishment would merely end up with a visit to the doc, a tube of Savlon, and a realisation that crime can hurt you as equally as others. And it would avoid the necessity to take up badly needed prison space.

    There - that's all I'm sayin'.

Well - apart from the fact that when I first saw him he was level with me, across the street, and going some, my view is ballax toany Citizens arrest.

I would most likely go the extra mile to help a person who I thought was in danger and deserved helping, but I have no intention of risking anything for a pair o friggin trainers.

Security guards should be forced to go to the gym

used to work in a supermarket when i was at school/college. Only the security guard and people with authority have insurance to actually chase the little Barstewards. They were all fat and couldnt run. Could walk away with anything.

If you walked in and the first thing you saw was a security guard in prime physical condition, youd think twice.
